The time limit for a mortgage offer can vary, but as a ballpark figure you should expect your mortgage offer to be valid for between three and six months.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some lenders will only provide mortgage\noffers that start from the date the offer was made. Others will start the\ncountdown from the date your application was submitted, and some will have even\nmore specific deadline terms in place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An agreement\nin principle<\/a> (AIP) is a statement from a lender that they are, in theory,\nwilling to lend you a certain amount of money based on the evidence you have\nshown them. It is not a formal offer of a mortgage, but it does indicate what\nprice range you could look at when you are house-hunting, and it shows the\nseller that you can make a serious offer on their property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mortgage offers are provided with a\nspecific deadline, which should be enough time<\/a>\nto finalise your purchase. However, sometimes things stall, and the mortgage\noffer may expire. This is common if you are part of a chain which collapses, or\nyou are purchasing a new build home which is subject to delays with the build. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
