Here at Yopa, we’re not just about selling homes – we’re also deeply immersed in the ever-changing tide of the UK property market, constantly tracking where homebuyers are setting their sights.

In our latest piece of research, we’ve sifted through property search statistics from the first quarter of 2023 and compared these figures with the same period in 2022. Our mission? To spot the movers and shakers, the rising stars of the UK property market, and to understand the twists and turns the overall market has taken over the last year.

The top ten locations with the biggest year-on-year increase in property searches are listed in the table below. Interestingly, seven out of the top ten locations were all in London, with the northern boroughs of London seeing a huge increase in homebuyer interest. Given the exodus from the capital for many homebuyers during the covid-19 pandemic – which saw house price growth fall to the lowest of any region for much of 2020-2022 – it seems that London’s popularity is returning in 2023.

Outside of London, the East Sussex town of Hollington and the Staffordshire town of Glascote near Tamworth have seen a 133% and 125% increase respectively, and the Wrexham effect seems to have sprinkled a little magic on nearby village Sandycroft in Flintshire in the north-east of Wales. With Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively now owning a home 15 minutes away in Marford, it is no wonder popularity in the region is on the rise!
