With the news that former Prime Minister, Boris\nJohnson, and his family plan to relocate there now that they have vacated\nNo.10, we take a closer look at what Herne Hill has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sandwiched on\nthe border between the London Boroughs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yopa.co.uk\/homeowners-hub\/whats-it-like-to-live-in-lambeth\/\">Lambeth<\/a> and Southwark, Herne Hill is located around\n4 miles south of Charing Cross with neighbouring Camberwell to the north, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yopa.co.uk\/homeowners-hub\/whats-it-like-to-live-in-peckham\/\">Peckham<\/a> and Dulwich Village to the east, Tulse\nHill to the south and Brixton to the west. Keep reading!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zone 2 Herne\nHill benefits from its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalrail.co.uk\/stations\/HNH\/details.html\">train station<\/a> with direct services to Blackfriars, Farringdon,\nCity Thameslink, St Pancras International, Victoria, Orpington, Sutton and\nWimbledon amongst others. You can also travel further afield to St Alban\u2019s in Hertfordshire.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst there have\nbeen discussions in the past about extending the Victoria Line to Herne Hill,\nthere isn\u2019t currently an underground station in the suburb itself. However,\nnearby Brixton underground station is within walking distance and as the first\nstop on the Victoria Line you would be unlucky not to get a coveted seat on the\ntube there. North Dulwich, Tulse Hill and Denmark Hill train stations are all\nwithin easy reach as well and offer services to London Bridge, Clapham Junction\nand Highbury and Islington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also\na number of <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/bus\/stop\/490G01149L\/herne-hill-station\">bus services<\/a> available locally. This includes the\nnumber 3 between Crystal Palace and Whitehall, the 42 between East Dulwich and\nLiverpool Street, the 68 to Euston and the N3 and N68 night buses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The A205 South\nCircular connects the area to the rest of south London between Woolwich and\nChiswick and the North Circular. The A202 also provides links to central London\nand the A23 from London to Brighton will take you to London Gatwick Airport in\nabout an hour with onward connections to Hampshire too. Herne Hill is not\ncurrently within the Congestion Charge Zone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herne Hill\nresidents have their pick of excellent primary and secondary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/\">schools<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local schools\nSt Jude\u2019s Church of England Primary School, Jessop Primary School, all through\nspecial school Elm Court and The Charter School North Dulwich for ages 11-18 are\nconsidered \u2018Outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted, with many others also highly rated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a\nnumber of independent schools available locally as well, including primaries Herne\nHill, Oakfield and Rosemead. Private secondary school options include Janes\nAllen\u2019s Girls\u2019 School, Alleyn\u2019s School, Dulwich College and all through boys\nschool Dulwich Prep London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happity.co.uk\/herne-hill\/baby-toddler-classes\">playgroups\nand activities<\/a> on offer to keep the younger members of the\nfamily happy.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and\namenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The high street\nfavourites of central London can be easily reached if desired, but Herne Hill\ncomes into its own in terms of local, independent retailers. Head to the railway\narches and the area around the train station such as Railton Road, Half Moon\nLane or slightly further out to Dulwich Road, Norwood Road and Milkwood Road\nfor delights such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seasonsofengland.com\/\">Seasons of England<\/a> greengrocers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesicilian.com\/\">The\nSicilian Delicatessen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jarrmarket.co.uk\/\">Jarr\nMarket<\/a> zero waste shop\nand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.talesonmoonlane.co.uk\/\">Tales on Moon Lane<\/a>\nchildren\u2019s bookshop to name but a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herne Hill\u2019s award-winning <a href=\"https:\/\/weareccfm.com\/locations\/herne-hill\/\">artisan market<\/a> is also extremely popular (see photo at the top of this article), taking place every Sunday and offering an impressive selection of street food, tempting fresh produce, plants, clothing, crafts, vintage treasures and everything in between! \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Food fans are definitely spoilt for choice too, with an\nextensive mix of eateries to suit\nevery palate. Highlights include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ArcadeCoffeeCo\">Arcade Coffee &amp; Co<\/a>, Dough Artisan Bakehouse, quirky\npizza place 400 Rabbits at The Lido, family-friendly <a href=\"https:\/\/appletreelondon.com\/\">Apple Tree Children\u2019s Caf\u00e9<\/a> and foodie favourite <a href=\"https:\/\/llewelyns-restaurant.co.uk\/\">Llewelyn\u2019s<\/a>. For a traditional pub with bags of character,\nhead to Grade II listed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.halfmoonhernehill.co.uk\/\">The Half Moon<\/a> which\nwas saved by the community and reopened in 2017 and popular live music bar <a href=\"https:\/\/offthecuffbar.co.uk\/\">Off the Cuff<\/a> which is definitely worth a visit come Friday\nor Saturday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Award-winning <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.lambeth.gov.uk\/parks\/brockwell-park\">Brockwell Park<\/a>\n\u2013 with its impressive open-air, Art Deco <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fusion-lifestyle.com\/centres\/brockwell-lido\/\">Lido<\/a>, the Brixton City Farm, walled garden, an impressive BMX\ntrack and the charming miniature railway \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.lambeth.gov.uk\/parks\/ruskin-park\">Ruskin Park<\/a>\nand <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.lambeth.gov.uk\/parks\/milkwood-community-park\">Milkwood Community Park<\/a> can all be found in Herne Hill itself. Residents\nalso have Belair Park and Dulwich Park on the doorstep, so green space\nabounds.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fitness\nenthusiasts of all ages will also appreciate the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hernehillvelodrome.com\/\">Herne\nHill Velodrome<\/a>, a community\ncycling facility dating back to 1891 and the various swimming, cricket, tennis,\nsquash and other sports clubs available locally. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s on?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Herne Hill\ncommunity may be more used to resident MPs from the other side of the Commons\nlike Harriet Harman, or famous faces from the arts such as Olivia Coleman or\nJessie Ware, but they are a social bunch regardless, with plenty of local events\nhappening throughout the year such as the Lambeth Country Show, the Herne Hill\nMusic Festival, Mighty Hoopla, Field Day and the Free Film Festival to name but\na few! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cosy,\nindependent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whirledcinema.com\/\">Whirled Cinema<\/a> with its impressive roster of films for\nall ages and unusual setting in the railway arches of Loughborough Junction is\nalso popular and the quirky magic and illusion performance company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theillusioneer.co.uk\/\">The\nIllusioneer<\/a> is based\nlocally too.
