Fans of live\ntheatre will also find themselves at home in the \u2018Rainy City\u2019, with the Royal Exchange\nTheatre<\/a>, Palace Theatre<\/a> and Contact Theatre<\/a>\nall boasting busy calendars. There\u2019s also Manchester\nOpera House<\/a> which puts on musicals, plays, children\u2019s shows and\nmajor productions, and has been established since 1912 and The Lowry<\/a>\nin Salford which houses several galleries and theatres under one roof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crime and Safety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As with all\nmetropolitan areas in the UK, Manchester experiences a certain level of crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That being said,\nmost areas of the city are safe to live in, and Greater\nManchester Police<\/a> are constantly working to improve safety and to\nbuild strong relationships with local people. The city has recently been split\ninto six command areas<\/a> to allow police to focus on\nspecific needs and dedicate resources where they are needed.
