The market town of Boston is located in the borough of the same\nname in the East Midlands County of Lincolnshire, and it was settlers from the\ntown who named the famous US city of Boston in Massachusetts after its UK\nnamesake. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boston is also a port town (once the second biggest port in the\nUK) thanks to its position on the River Witham which is part of the wider \u2018Fens\u2019\ncoastal plain. The town is thought to be named after the missionary St Botolph\nwho arrived in the local area in the 7th<\/sup> century. The impressive 14th<\/sup>\ncentury church in the town, St Botolph’s Church or “The Stump”, is\nnamed after him. Boston came to prominence in the Middle Ages as a centre for\nimport, export and food production (namely wool and vegetables) and later as a\nrailway hub in the 19th<\/sup> century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, homeowners are attracted to Boston thanks to the scenic\nLincolnshire coast and countryside on the doorstep, such as the Lincolnshire\nWolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the town\u2019s great leisure\nfacilities like the Boston West sports venue and Ark<\/a> and Lincolnshire<\/a> Wildlife Parks. The surrounding\nvillages are also popular thanks to friendly communities, low crime rates and\ngood schools. Competitive house prices are also a bonus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The average price of a house in Boston over the last 12 months was\n\u00a3172,620, making the town one of the more affordable areas of Lincolnshire,\nwhich has an average house price of \u00a3218,377 overall. Boston also offers much\nbetter value than Lincolnshire hotspots Ufford (\u00a3865,000), Harmston (\u00a3504,000) and\nBarnack (\u00a3427,364) in particular.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of property type, the majority of properties sold in\nBoston in the last 12 months were detached, selling for an average price of \u00a3217,080,\nwhilst semi-detached properties and terraced houses sold for an average price\nof \u00a3146,738 and \u00a3125,192, respectively. Fans of period homes will be pleased to\nknow that there is a good crop of stunning Georgian townhouses on offer in\nBoston, with plenty of period architecture still present throughout the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport links <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Boston\nis well connected to surrounding towns and cities by road and rail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lincoln\nand Peterborough are both less than an hour away via the A17 and A16 and\nNottingham is 1 hour 30 minutes\u2019 drive. Boston\u2019s train station<\/a> is on the Grantham \u2013\nSkegness Line, offering services to both towns in 49 and 40 minutes\nrespectively. A change at Sleaford train station 22 minutes away also offers\nservices to Nottingham, Lincoln and Newark. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\ncomprehensive bus network<\/a> is also in operation\nin and around Boston, with services further afield to neighbouring areas such\nas Grantham and Sleaford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

East Midlands Airport<\/a> and access to\ninternational travel is less than 70 miles away from Boston also. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools and education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When\nit comes to schools<\/a>, Boston is in the\ncatchment area for a good range of institutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Primary\nschools Carlton Road Academy, Staniland Academy, Boston West Academy and Wyberton\nPrimary Academy have been rated \u201coutstanding\u201d by Ofsted, with all others being rated\n“good”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Popular\nsecondary schools include Boston High School for girls (which is co-educational\nin the sixth form), selective Boston Grammar School for boys and Haven High\nTechnology College. Special schools Boston Endeavour Academy and Aspiration\nHouse School are also highly rated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridge\nHouse Independent School is popular too, as are nearby selective Carre\u2019s Grammar School<\/a> (for boys only in\nYears 7 to 11 and co-educational in the Sixth Form) in Sleaford and the Holton Sleaford Independent School<\/a> for pupils aged 14-19.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nfurther and higher education, Boston College<\/a> and the nearby University of Lincoln<\/a> offer a broad range of\ncourses, apprenticeships and specialist lectures and conferences. The\nUniversity was even voted the \u2018Modern University of the Year<\/a>\u2019 in the Sunday Times\nGood University Guide 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure and amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Pescod Square Shopping\nCentre<\/a> and Waterfall Plaza<\/a> offer a\ngreat range of independent and high street shops and Boston is also home to\nsupermarkets, banks, pharmacies, a post office and all the essentials. The\nimpressive Boston Market<\/a> dates back\nto the 12th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also a great range of eateries like the Sack Store<\/a> homeware store, caf\u00e9 and food\nhall, farm shop Mountain\u2019s Boston Sausage restaurant bistro<\/a>, the Riverside Restaurant<\/a> at the\nWhite Hart Hotel and the Fuddy Duck Brewery<\/a> who also\nhost a popular open mic night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those in search of outdoor pursuits can reach both the\nLincolnshire Wolds ANOB and the beaches and seaside resort of Skegness with its\nseal sanctuary, Pier and Fantasy Island Resort<\/a> in around\n40 minutes. Closer to home Boston\u2019s Central Park<\/a>, the Water Rail Way Cycle\nRoute<\/a>,  the RSPB Frampton Marsh\nNature Reserve<\/a> and Witham Way Country Park<\/a> plus nearby\nTattershall Lakes Country Park and Tattershall Farm Park<\/a> are also\npopular with all members of the family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area\u2019s rich heritage can be viewed at the Boston Guildhall Museum<\/a>, the Battle Of Britain\nMemorial Flight Visitor Centre<\/a>, award-winning We’ll Meet Again WW2 Home Front Museum<\/a>, Hussey Tower<\/a> and Fydell House<\/a> and its\n\u2018magical\u2019 gardens. Exploring Boston from the water is also an option on the Boston Belle<\/a> sea and river cruises. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nindoor pursuits, there are three leisure centres within the town with a range\nof swimming and fitness facilities on offer: the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex,\nthe Princess Royal Sports\nArena<\/a>\nand the Peter Paine Performance\nCentre<\/a>,\nBoston College\u2019s dedicated sports centre. Boston Bowl<\/a> and entertainment\ncomplex and Play Towers<\/a> are family favourites\ntoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boston and the surrounding areas enjoy a calendar of events that\noffers something for everyone to enjoy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dance music fans will appreciate the Twisted Wonderland Festival<\/a>, Boston\u2019s\nbeer and music event Party in the Park is always well attended and the newly\nlaunched Boston Book Festival<\/a> is a must\nfor literature fans. Nearby Tattershall Lakes<\/a> is also home\nto the ever popular Colour Festival and the Vintage and Retro\nFestival<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Culture vultures have the choice of theatre, comedy, opera and a\nwhole range of live entertainment options at Blackfriars Art Centre<\/a> too, plus\na great line up at the iconic live music venue the Gliderdrome<\/a> and classic, contemporary\nand event screenings at the Savoy Cinema<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boston\nlocals are also a sporty lot, with tennis, bowling, squash, swimming and\nsailing clubs on offer for a range of ability levels, quite apart from the\nimpressive Boston West<\/a> golf club and resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crime and safety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Like any UK town, Boston does experience some criminal activity\nfrom time to time and despite higher crime rates in years gone by, Lincolnshire Police<\/a> have since put a number of\ninitiatives in place to address crime and anti-social behaviour and support the\nlocal community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
