The town of Stourbridge\nis located in the West Midlands County, 12 miles west from Birmingham and less\nthan 7 miles from Dudley on the banks of the River Stour. Hence the name, which\nrefers to a crossing point on the river. \n <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the edge of\nthe \u201cBlack Country\u201d, leafy, suburban Stourbridge played a significant role in\nthe glass and locomotive industries during the Industrial Revolution and the\ntown is characterised by its mix of residential areas and green space\ninterspersed with plenty of commercial offerings and impressive architectural reminders\nof its industrial heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homeowners are\nattracted to the great local amenities, excellent transport links across the\nMidlands and beyond and highly rated schools. Competitive house prices are also\na big draw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport\nlinks<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Stourbridge is\nwell connected to the rest of the West Midlands and the UK beyond by road and\nrail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two\ntrain stations in the town. Stourbridge Town<\/a> train station, the more central of the\ntwo, provides frequent shuttle services to the town\u2019s main station, Stourbridge\nJunction, and a freight service towards Brierly Hill. Stourbridge Junction<\/a> train station provides rail services to\nKidderminster in 7 minutes, Birmingham Snow Hill in 27 minutes, Worcester in around\n30 minutes, Stratford-upon-Avon in 1 hour 13 minutes and London Marylebone in 2\nhours.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stourbridge is\nwell served by road connections too. The A451 from Stourbridge to Great Witley\nin the Malvern Hills provides a direct link to Kidderminster 18 minutes away,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the A458 from\nHalesowen provides links to Dudley, Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Mid\nWales and the A491 provides links southbound to the M5 and northbound to Wolverhampton.\nThere are also a number of frequent bus and coach services available from the town\u2019s\nStourbridge Interchange<\/a> station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For travelling\nfurther afield, Birmingham International Airport is around 45 minutes away by both\nroad and rail, offering various domestic and international flight options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Stourbridge is\nhome to a great selection of primary and secondary school options<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are 25\nprimary schools locally, with Greenfield Primary School and all through special\nschool, The Old Park School, both rated \u2018outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted. The vast majority\nof other primary schools have been rated \u2018good\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes\nto secondary schools, Redhills School has been rated \u2018outstanding\u2019 and\nindependent boarding school the Old Swinford Hospital and the Pedmore High\nSchool are also highly rated, as is nearby Halesowen College. For children aged\n16-18, the King Edward VI College is also a popular option and independent Elmfield\nRudolf Steiner School offers the Steiner Waldorf curriculum.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For higher\neducation, the University of Wolverhampton, University of Birmingham and the\nUniversity of Worcester are all within easy reach and at the other end of the\nspectrum, Stourbridge is home to a good range of baby and toddler activities<\/a> and nursery settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure and\namenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Only 3 miles from\nretail and leisure behemoth Merry Hill<\/a>, Stourbridge has a great selection of high street and independent retailers<\/a> in its own right too. The town also hosts regular markets<\/a> selling everything from arts, crafts and antiques to local produce, homewares,\nplants and shrubs. There are also a range of supermarkets on offer for all the\nessentials which includes Sainsburys, Waitrose, Tesco and Aldi.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to an\ninformal lunch or dining out in style, Stourbridge has plenty to offer. Popular\nlocal eateries include vegan favourite VGN\nBoulevard<\/a>, Khatri’s<\/a> Indian restaurant, Surantha Patisserie<\/a> with its famed cakes, and cosy pub the\nWindsor Castle Inn<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also plenty\nof fun of the outdoor variety to be had at Stourbridge\u2019s various parks such as Mary Stevens Park<\/a> with its play areas, sports facilities and caf\u00e9\nand the gardens and leisure facilities of 27 acre Stevens Park<\/a>. The scenic Stourbridge Canal<\/a> is a great location for a stroll, bike ride or a\nleisurely boat trip and the town is surrounded by scenic greenbelt with the\nShropshire Hills AONB, Malvern Hills AONB and historic Kinver Edge Hillfort and\nRock Houses within easy reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to\nindoor entertainment, Crystal Leisure Centre<\/a>\u2019s swimming pools, sports courts, gym\nand fitness classes, Chilly Kiddy\u2019s Soft Play<\/a> and the Boing Trampoline\nCentre<\/a> tick all the boxes\nand the Stourbridge Glass Museum<\/a>, the Lace\nGuild Museum<\/a> and nearby Black\nCountry Living Museum<\/a> provide a fascinating insight into the history of the local area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stourbridge offers a\nbusy and varied calendar of local events and activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospective residents\nwill be reassured to know that Stourbridge is considered a safe,\nfamily-friendly area with much lower than average<\/a> crime rates for the West Midlands Police\nForce area. Dudley postcodes also scored highly in a recent survey<\/a> by Confused.com to find the areas of the UK which are the most secure\nto live in and buy a home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
