The attractive town of Haslemere in\nSurrey takes its name from the hazels by the mere, or lake, which once existed\nthere. Haslemere is also on the watershed between rivers\nthat eventually meet the North Sea, and those that flow into the English\nChannel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the hazels, it\u2019s a town with strong roots, which blossomed in the early days of the railway. Haslemere\u2019s popularity as a commuter town for London has led to a highly competitive housing market, with house prices ranging from \u00a3277,689 for a 1-bedroom flat, to over \u00a31,000,000 for a detached home. The average house price over the last year was around \u00a3686,598. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haslemere Train Station<\/a> is on the South Western Railway and offers not only excellent links to Waterloo, an hour and a quarter away, but also to Bristol and many south coast destinations. The nearest airports are London Gatwick, just 24 miles away, Southampton, 30 miles away, and London Heathrow, 35 miles away, which can be reached via easy train or bus connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woolmer Hill School<\/a> is a secondary academy for 11\u201316-year-olds which has received a \u201cGood\u201d rating from Ofsted. As has Camelsdale Primary School<\/a>, which is set in beautiful grounds and has strong community links, alongside St Bartholomews Primary C of E<\/a> and Shottermill Junior School<\/a>. St Ives School<\/a> is an independent prep school which has been voted Small Independent School of the Year on more than one occasion and Haslemere also has good nursery provision, including a Montessori School<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure and amenities<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From the Mediterranean-Japanese fusion of MOMA<\/a> to cool kid and Coppa Club member The Georgian<\/a> or newbie Green Olive<\/a>, all tastes are catered for in Haslemere. Picturesque local gastro pubs like the Noah’s Ark Inn<\/a>, serve traditional ales and delicious pub fare, too. If exercise beckons, the North Downs Way<\/a> passes to the north of the town. It is a long-distance route that takes in beautiful scenery and historic sites along the way.\u00a0 Serious mountain bikers also love the challenge of the Surrey Hills Mountain Biking <\/a>routes. In fact, Haslemere is literally surrounded by beautiful locations, with several outstanding National Trust sites including Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punchbowl<\/a>, and various walks<\/a> in and around the town itself. Eat, exercise, rest, repeat and above all enjoy \u2013 it has to be the perfect recipe for the good life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s on? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You may think there\u2019s a bit of a theme going on here, and there is. With such a great choice of outdoor locations to explore, it\u2019s not surprising that Haslemere’s Walking Festival<\/a> is one of the town\u2019s most popular events. As is the Haslemere Festival<\/a>, a humdinger of an event with live music, family-friendly entertainment, classic car shows and much more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haslemere Hall<\/a> also offers live entertainment, film screenings, ballet, opera and much more while Haslemere’s Educational Museum<\/a> is everything a local museum should be, with fine geological and natural history collections, and even its own Egyptian mummy. A range of sporting activities including swimming are on offer at Haslemere Leisure Centre<\/a>. And to round off a busy local season, you can\u2019t beat a relaxing tour of the award-winning Trotton Estate Vineyards. <\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety & Crime<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to crime, Haslemere \u2013 with\nits friendly community feel \u2013 is one of Surrey\u2019s safest towns and has lower\nthan average crime rates for the Surrey Force area.
