Sidcup is an area in South East London which falls primarily within the London Borough of Bexley<\/a> (although parts of northern Sidcup are governed by the Royal Borough of Greenwich). Historically part of Kent, like many of its nearest neighbours, Sidcup was subsumed into Greater London in the 1960s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a number of parks<\/a> and manor houses which remain in the\ntown and hint at its past as a location where wealthy landowners set up home.\nThere are also stunning Victorian, Edwardian and 1930s properties on offer\nthroughout the area, as well as smaller and more modern homes, making Sidcup\nsuitable for a range of homebuyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area\u2019s proximity to central London less than 12 miles away, coupled with the easily accessible Kent countryside<\/a> and plenty of green, outdoor space on the doorstep make Sidcup a highly desirable area for commuters, nature lovers and families. Homeowners also choose Sidcup thanks to a well-stocked high street, plenty of local amenities and good education options including grammar and independent schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

House prices are\nalso a major draw to the area \u2013 particularly in comparison to budget-busting\ncentral London \u2013 and are some of the lowest of all London boroughs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past 12 months, the average property price in Sidcup was \u00a3455,873. Slightly more than for the Borough of Bexley overall, but significantly cheaper than the South East London region and local hotspots Chislehurst, Bickley and Blendon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport\nLinks<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sidcup is served by its own railway station<\/a>, which has quick connections to central London stations such as Charing Cross<\/a> and Cannon Street<\/a>. In the other direction there\u2019s Dartford and Gravesend, with Southeastern<\/a> running reliable services along the Kent-London line. There is also an extensive bus network<\/a> which connects Sidcup with all other areas of London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you prefer to travel by car, Sidcup is\nhandily located on the A211, with the A20 bypass ensuring disruptive traffic is\nkept out of the town centre. The main roads in the town are Station Road and\nMain Road, which keep the town well connected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools\nand Education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sidcup has a wide range of school options for\nall ages, including independent, grammar and comprehensive schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The majority of primary schools in Sidcup have been rated \u2018good\u2019 or \u2018outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted. Burnt Oak Junior School<\/a>, Holy Trinity Lamorbey Church of England School<\/a>, Chatsworth Infant School<\/a> and Longlands Primary School<\/a> are all popular choices, with independent options including Benedict House Preparatory School<\/a>, West Lodge School<\/a> and Merton Court School<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The secondary school choices in Sidcup include both a technology college and grammar schools, making the area suited to a lot of different needs. Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School<\/a> and Bexley Grammar<\/a> are selective academic schools, whilst Kemnal Technology College<\/a> offers more of a focus on technology and arts subjects. There\u2019s also Orion Cooper\u2019s School<\/a>, Blackfen School for Girls<\/a>, Leigh Stationers’ Academy<\/a> and Christ the King Sixth Form College<\/a> nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for SEND provision, again Sidcup has a range of choices on offer. Cleeve Meadow<\/a>, Marlborough School<\/a>, Riverside School<\/a> and Marjorie McClure School<\/a> all come highly recommended and have a good reputation in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sidcup is also well known for its arts and drama focused higher education options. Bird College Conservatoire<\/a> and Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance<\/a> are known to have produced some of the best performers and actors in the country including Gary Avis, Gary Oldman, and Stephen Graham. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure\nand Amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the most appealing things about living\nin Sidcup is the number of amenities and leisure facilities on the doorstep. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature lovers will be right at home, with numerous parks including Foots Cray Meadows<\/a>, Scadbury Park Nature Reserve<\/a> and Lamorbey Park<\/a>, commonly known as The Glade. For children, there\u2019s plenty of playgrounds<\/a> such as Sidcup Place, Waring Park and King George\u2019s Recreation Ground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sidcup Golf Club<\/a> is a social hub of the town, with a well-maintained clubhouse and a full calendar of events. The club holds weekly competitions and regular training courses. There\u2019s also the Sidcup and District Motorcycle Club<\/a> for bike lovers who hold races, rallies, events, and competitions throughout the year. In the centre of town, Sidcup benefits from a large leisure centre<\/a> which includes a 25m swimming pool, 100 station gym and 4 full sized sports courts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If shopping is more your thing, Sidcup High Street is home to numerous independent and mainstream shops including gift shops, book shops, antiques shops, and clothes retailers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s\nOn<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sidcup has a lively calendar of cultural events, festivals, shows and productions throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music lovers have no shortage of entertainment and shows in and around the region to choose from. Sidcup Symphony Orchestra<\/a> is well known in the local area and hosts regular performances at the beautiful St John\u2019s Church<\/a>. There\u2019s also Sidcup Jazz Club<\/a>, who offer live performances each Thursday evening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summertime, Sidcup comes alive with festivals and outdoor events. Some of the most popular include Lark in the Park<\/a> which has grown over the last few years to include an open-air stage, kid\u2019s events, an over 60\u2019s venue and lots of activities for all the family. There\u2019s also Chislehurst Rocks<\/a>, a free music festival with performances, stalls, a funfair and workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety\nand Crime<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When compared with similar sized areas, Sidcup\nhas a relatively low level of crime<\/a>. Particularly in\ncomparison to Lewisham, Greenwich, and Croydon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sidcup has a dedicated Safer Neighbourhoods Team and falls under the Bexley Community Safety Partnership<\/a>. There are also several community run Neighbourhood Watch<\/a> schemes in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
