It was said that whoever held Stirling held Scotland\nand the impressive 16th century stronghold Stirling Castle is still located\nright in the heart of the Old Town. In the Abbey Craig Hills above the town can\nbe seen the 67 metre high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitscotland.com\/info\/see-do\/the-national-wallace-monument-p2494891\">National\nWallace Monument<\/a> which marks the Battle of Stirling Bridge\nin 1297 when the English met their match in William Wallace.<strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Stirling is still home to some striking medieval\nproperties in the Old Town and many impressive Victorian sandstone properties\nin upmarket suburbs like The Kings Park. New build developments have also\nsprung up in areas like St Ninians and with an average house price of around \u00a3200,000\nyour money will go further here than fellow historic haunt Edinburgh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around 37 miles north-west of Edinburgh\nand 26 miles north-west of Glasgow, Stirling is a popular commuter town with excellent motorway\nlinks via the M9, M80 and A9 to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth and rail connections\nwithin 30-50 minutes. But Stirling and the surrounding area is also known for\nits great amenities and exciting cosmopolitan buzz. Nearby Bridge of Allan\nis also well known for its independent shops, cafes, and bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Did you know? <\/em><\/strong><em>Stirling is often referred to as the \u201cbroach that clasps the highlands and the lowlands together\u201d. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stirling is a well-connected city with\na wealth of transport connections and options, including a dedicated railway\nstation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A number of frequent and reliable\nservices run from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotrail.co.uk\/plan-your-journey\/stations-and-facilities\/stg\">Stirling Station<\/a>, making it an excellent\ncommuter destination (it\u2019s great for day tripping, too). It\u2019s possible to reach\nGlasgow Queen Street within around 35 minutes and Edinburgh in around 30\nminutes. There are also\ndirect, longer distance journeys to the likes of Inverness, Aberdeen, and\nLondon Euston via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleeper.scot\/\">Caledonian Sleeper<\/a>\nservice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city is served by an extensive public <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstbus.co.uk\/south-east-and-central-scotland\/stirling-starts-here\">bus network<\/a> too, which\ncovers the entire region whilst offering services to many nearby destinations\ntoo. There is also a hop-on, hop-off city bus tour (the 1314).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re travelling by\nmotor vehicle, the M9 between Edinburgh and Dunblane and the M80 from Glagow\nvia Cumbernauld and Denny are right on the doorstep, offering easy access to\nmost of the nation\u2019s major routes \u2013 north,\nsouth, east, and west. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghairport.com\/\">Edinburgh Airport<\/a> is also less than 30 miles away on the M9 and offers both domestic and\ninternational flights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest stations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotrail.co.uk\/plan-your-journey\/stations-and-facilities\/stg\">Stirling Station<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railscot.co.uk\/locations\/K\/Kinbuck\/\">Kinbuck Railway Station<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotrail.co.uk\/plan-your-journey\/stations-and-facilities\/fkg\">Falkirk Grahamston Station<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools and education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stirling has a great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stirling.gov.uk\/learning-education\/schools\/\">choice<\/a> of primary schools,\nsecondary schools, and settings offering special educational needs and\ndisability provision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are around 12\nprimary schools in the heart of Stirling as well as eight in the wider\ncatchment area. Popular options include Allan\u2019s Primary School, Riverside\nPrimary School and Raploch Primary School. Castleview School on the Raploch\nCommunity Campus provides education for children with a range of additional\nsupport needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For bigger kids taking\ntheir education to the next level, Stirling is home to around 10 secondary school settings.\nWallace High School, Stirling High School and nearby Dunblane High School are\nhighly rated. <em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those looking for a fix of further education,\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sterling.edu\/\">Stirling College<\/a> is a thriving modern campus\noffering a wide range of academic qualifications, vocational courses, and\naccess to dynamic contemporary apprenticeships. In terms of higher education, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stir.ac.uk\/\">The University of Stirling<\/a> offers a range of undergraduate and\npostgraduate courses and has been named UK&#8217;s Sports University of the Year 2020\nby The Times and Sunday Times thanks to its world class facilities and\nteaching.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh, and let\u2019s not forget those wee\nbairns. It also runs its very own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thistlesstirling.com\/the-wolf-pack\/\">monthly kids club<\/a> \u2013 the wolfpack \u2013 so they\ncan have fun while you hit the shops. The city is also home to a vibrant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirlingfarmersmarket.co.uk\/\">Farmers\u2019 Market<\/a> which takes place twice\na month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the big weekly food\nshop, you\u2019re in luck too: there is a\nWaitrose, branches of Sainsbury\u2019s, Aldi, Costcutter and a Tesco Superstore all\non the doorstep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you like getting\nactive and working up a sweat the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activestirling.org.uk\/\">PEAK Leisure Centre<\/a> is home to a fully\nequipped gym, sports pitches, two swimming pools, a climbing wall, and even an\nice rink.
