Despite its Kent postcode, Bexleyheath is\nactually part of the London Borough of Bexley in Greater London, equidistant\nfrom Eltham and Dartford. Originally part of Kent until the 1960s, the small\ntown started life as pasture and heath land before becoming part of the newly\ncreated Bexley borough in 1965. Due to its unique location, residents reap the\nbenefits of both city living and access to the beautiful Kent countryside,\nmaking it extremely popular with both families and young professionals\ncommuting into the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House prices are also a major draw to the area\n\u2013 particularly in comparison to budget-busting central London \u2013 and are some of\nthe lowest of all London boroughs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This makes both the city and the countryside accessible in under an\nhour, with direct trains to London Charing Cross (in 37 minutes), London Bridge (27 minutes), London\nVictoria (43 minutes),\nDartford (10 minutes) and\nthe county of Kent. Bexleyheath is also conveniently located on the A2, and\nclose to the Dartford Crossing, for those who prefer to travel by car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bexleyheath\nalso benefits from Transport for London\u2019s<\/a> bus service which runs efficient\nand regular services across the capital, making local connections and shorter\njourneys easier and more environmentally friendly. For international\ntravellers, London City Airport<\/a> can be reached in under an hour\nvia train, with Heathrow<\/a>, Gatwick<\/a> and Stansted<\/a> all under two hours away. Townley Grammar\nSchool<\/a> and Bexley Grammar School<\/a> are both popular selective options in the local\narea, with several good comprehensive schools also situated in the town. Bexleyheath Academy<\/a>, St Catherine\u2019s Catholic School for Girls<\/a> and St Columba’s Catholic Boys’ School<\/a> are all popular and achieve good\nexam results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nyounger children, there are numerous primary schools located in Bexleyheath. Upton Primary School<\/a> and St Thomas More Catholic Primary\nSchool<\/a> were both\nrated \u2018outstanding\u2019 at the last Ofsted inspection, with Upland Primary School<\/a>, Pelham Primary School<\/a> and Brampton Primary Academy<\/a> all deemed \u2018good\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bexleyheath\nalso has several SEN schools, including two primaries, Aspire Academy Bexley<\/a> and Shenstone School<\/a>. Woodside School<\/a> and Willow Dene School<\/a> both offer primary and secondary\nplaces with extra support, with Park View Academy<\/a> being the independent SEN option in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most\nof Bexleyheath\u2019s retail and food outlets are located around the town\u2019s central\nhub, The Broadway. This is a pedestrianised area which also includes\nBexleyheath Square and boasts amenities such as the Broadway Shopping Centre<\/a> which houses more than 60 shops\nand several eateries, Cineworld cinema<\/a>, a bowling alley<\/a> and even a bingo hall<\/a>. There are also numerous pubs,\nbars and restaurants along The Broadway, with local favourites including The M Kitchen<\/a>, The Kentish Belle<\/a> and Blend<\/a> which serves delicious cocktails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nthose looking for shopping outside the town, Bluewater Shopping Centre<\/a> is also easily accessible from\nBexleyheath. It is home to hundreds of shops, food and drink options and even\nleisure facilities such as a 17 screen cinema<\/a>, trampoline park<\/a> and a pirate themed\nadventure park<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bexleyheath\nalso has a lot to offer for sporty and athletic types. There\u2019s Bexleyheath Golf Club<\/a>, a nine hole golf course which\nalso has a thriving clubhouse, Crook Log Leisure\nCentre<\/a> with a\nswimming pool, state of the art equipment and sauna, and a five-a-side football\ncentre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To\nthe west of Bexleyheath is the beautiful Danson House and\nPark<\/a>, the perfect\nfamily day out with stunning walks, a lake, a splash zone and several sports\npitches. There\u2019s also Danson Park\nAdventures <\/a>which\nincludes a climbing centre, sailing lessons, paddle sports and canoeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s on?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There\nare several creative arts venues in Bexleyheath, each home to a unique\nprogramme of events, concerts and shows. The Edward Alderton Theatre<\/a> puts on a wide selection of\namateur productions including comedies, dramas, and tragedies. The programme is\ncompleted with an annual pantomime and is a well-loved institution in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nhistory lovers, there\u2019s the beautiful Hall Place and Gardens<\/a>, a park and house with stunning\ngrounds and regular events. They put on regular farmer\u2019s markets as well as\nevents for children, plus there\u2019s the Bexley Butterfly\nHouse<\/a> and a\ngallery in the grounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bexleyheath\nwas once the heart of the arts and crafts movement in the UK, with William\nMorris and his wife Jane living at the famous Red House<\/a>. Like\nall areas in the UK, Bexleyheath experiences a certain level of crime, but\nreassuringly for residents it is well below the\naverage<\/a> for other\ncomparable areas. Residents also work closely with the local authorities to\nensure these rates stay relatively low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
