The town of\nHinckley in the East Midlands county of Leicestershire is around 30 miles and\n45 minutes\u2019 drive east of Birmingham and equidistant from Coventry and\nLeicester which are both around 12 miles away. The market town started life as\nan Anglo-Saxon settlement and was renowned in the garment industry as a centre\nfor hosiery (tights and stockings) from the 17th<\/sup> century onwards and\nlater as the birthplace of the Handsom cab, the original black cab, in 1834. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hinckley has\nexcellent transport links to the wider Leicestershire, Warwickshire and\nMidlands regions making the area popular with commuters. Good schools, lots of\nfamily friendly amenities, a well-stocked high street and the impressive\n200-acre Burbage Common and Woods on the doorstep make the area popular with\nhomebuyers of all ages. Competitive house prices don\u2019t hurt either!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the average\nhouse price in the area over the last 12 months was a very reasonable \u00a3244,200.\nMore affordable than Leicestershire overall (\u00a3262,937) and particularly hotspots\nNewtown Linford (\u00a3840,375), Cropston (\u00a3344,625) and nearby village Burbage (\u00a3290,065).\nWhen it comes to property types there is something for everyone, ranging from Georgian,\nVictorian and Edwardian homes to more modern post war properties and\ncontemporary developments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport links <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hinckley\nis well connected to the surrounding villages, towns and cities of Leicestershire,\nWarwickshire and the Midlands via road and rail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ntown\u2019s location provides easy transport links for drivers via the nearby M69\nbetween Leicester and Coventry (reaching either in less than half an hour), the\nM6 from Warwickshire all the way to the Scottish borders via the North West, the\nM1 between London and Leeds and the A5 between London and North Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hinckley<\/a> train station is\nlocated half a mile south of the town centre on the Nuneaton to Leicester\nstretch of the Birmingham to Peterborough Line. The station offers regular\nservices to Nuneaton in 6 minutes \u2013 where you can change for services to\nCoventry or London Euston \u2013 Leicester in 20 minutes (which offers onward\nservices to London St Pancras), Birmingham New Street in 36 minutes and services\nto Peterborough in 1 hour 19 minutes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ntown also has a comprehensive bus network<\/a> serving the local villages and larger\ntowns such as Burbage, Nuneaton and Coventry as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\ntravelling further afield, both East Midlands Airport<\/a> and Birmingham International Airport<\/a> are around 35 minutes\u2019\ndrive from Hinckley and there is a regular peak time rail service to Stansted Airport<\/a> via Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools and education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When\nit comes to schools, Hinckley is in the catchment area for a good range of primary,\nsecondary, independent and SEND settings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nterms of primary schools, Westfield Infant School (rated \u2018outstanding\u2019 by\nOfsted), Saint Peter\u2019s Catholic Primary School, Battling Brook Primary School and\nHinckley Parks Primary School are all highly rated, as are Burbage Junior\nSchool and Sketchley Hill Primary School in the\nadjoining village of Burbage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Popular\nsecondary schools locally include Hastings High School, Hinckley Academy and\nJohn Cleveland Sixth Form Centre and Redmoor Academy and there are numerous\nhighly rated schools in nearby Nuneaton also. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nare also independent and special school settings available locally, including\nthe selective Dixie\nGrammar School in nearby Market Bosworth. Dorothy Goodman School is an all\nthrough special school in Hinckley for children aged 4-18 with an extensive\nrange of special educational needs and disabilities including all levels of\nlearning disabilities, Autism and social, emotional and mental health\ndifficulties and has been rated \u2018outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nfurther education, the North\nWarwickshire and South Leicestershire College<\/a> has a campus in Hinckley\nand the town is a 30-minute commute from The University of\nLeicester<\/a>, Coventry University<\/a> and the\nhighly rated University of Warwick<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure and amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hinckley town centre has seen a significant amount of regeneration<\/a> in recent\nyears, with the introduction of a new leisure centre<\/a> with swimming\npool, extensive\nfitness classes and fully equipped gym, a cinema<\/a> and\nnumerous eateries and shops including a large Sainsbury\u2019s. Hinckley is also\nhome to supermarkets Asda, Tesco, Aldi and Lidl plus a selection of banks, a\npost office and other essential services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Britannia Centre<\/a> shopping\ncentre and pedestrianised Castle Street are home to a great selection of high\nstreet favourites such as TK Maxx, Boots and New Look plus independent retailers\nlike The Pottery Shed<\/a>, for all\nthings (you guessed it) pottery, and charming gift shop Marmalade Meringue<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also a great range of eateries in Hinckley, with local\nfavourites including Everest Dine<\/a> Indian\nrestaurant, Italian Inferno Restaurant<\/a>, Golden Spoon<\/a> Thai restaurant and Buttercream Tearoom<\/a>. Hinckley and the surrounding areas enjoy a calendar of events that\noffers something for everyone to enjoy including the Feast Hinckley<\/a> food and\ndrink festival, the Sausage and Cider\nFestival<\/a>, the Snap Dragon Family\nFestival<\/a> and the Festive Family Fun Run<\/a> to name\nbut a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hollycroft Park also hosts regular live music and entertainment\nsuch as Proms in the Park and a lively market<\/a> takes\nplace in the town centre every Monday, Friday and Saturday. Local theatre The Concordia<\/a> (set in a former knitting\nfactory) offers regular theatre, opera, pantomime and dramatic performances from\nboth local and national theatre groups and the nearby Ricoh Arena<\/a> in\nCoventry and the Birmingham NEC<\/a> play host\nto various large scale events and international artists.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
