Scotland\u2019s\ncompact capital city is located on the east coast of central Scotland and\noffers culture and dynamism by the bucketload. Home to the historic Medieval Old Town\nand elegant Georgian New Town the centre of Edinburgh has a rich architectural\nand cultural history with the famous 11th<\/sup> century Edinburgh\nCastle quite literally at its heart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An impressive\narray of shops, bars and restaurants on Princes Street, George Street and the\nRoyal Mile plus scenic Princes Street Gardens, Holyrood Park and Arthur\u2019s Seat\noffer a little something for everyone. The popular city also scored highly on Yopa\u2019s recent Love Where You Live Guide<\/a>. Indeed, Edinburgh came in at number 7\nof the top 10 best places in the UK to buy a property based on access to green\nspaces, job opportunities and average local salaries amongst other factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slightly\nfurther afield are the charming suburbs of Musselburgh with its scenic beach\nwalks and lovely harbour, the pretty waterfront of Leigh, Corstorphine with its\nvillage-like feel and plethora of independent shops and restaurants and the\nleafy, affluent Bruntsfield and\nMorningside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Property types\nare plentiful, with stunning pre-Victorian\nand Georgian properties in the centre, airy tenement apartments and more modern\npre-war bungalows and new build developments in the outlying areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to\nproperty, unsurprisingly, the\ncity of Edinburgh is not the cheapest area of the wider Edinburgh and Lothian\nregion or Edinburgh County overall, with an average house price of \u00a3304,777\nover the last 12 months compared to \u00a3273,103 and \u00a3303,066, respectively.\nHowever, despite an increase in sold prices of 7% in the last year, prices are\nstill 31% lower than the pre credit crunch peak of \u00a3438,686 in 2007 and areas\nsuch as Portobello, Edinburgh East and Grantham all offer good value for money\nfor the savvy house buyer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport\nlinks<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As you would\nexpect for a capital city, Edinburgh is extremely well connected by road, rail,\nair and even tram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edinburgh Waverley<\/a>, the city\u2019s main rail hub, is located\nin the centre of Edinburgh next to Princes Street Gardens and offers regular\nservices across Scotland and the rest of the UK. From here, you can reach\nGlasgow in 50 minutes, Perth and Dundee in 75 minutes, Newcastle in less than\nan hour and a half and London King\u2019s Cross in 4 hours 30 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city is\nalso served by Haymarket<\/a> railway station in the west end area\nand a number of suburban stations on the Edinburgh Crossrail and Borders\nRailway routes. Edinburgh Gateway<\/a> station includes an interchange with\nthe Edinburgh\nTrams<\/a> service which\nruns from the city centre to Edinburgh Airport<\/a> in around 35 minutes, with the airport\noffering frequent internal and international flight options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For travel in\nand around Edinburgh and nearby suburbs, buses<\/a> are another popular option, most of\nwhich can be picked up from Princes Street although long distance bus and coach\nservices such as Stagecoach<\/a> and National Express<\/a> run from Edinburgh Bus Station. There is\nalso a 24 hour Airlink 100<\/a> service between Edinburgh Airport and\nthe city centre. For drivers, the Edinburgh Bypass, a key Scottish trunk road,\nis situated to the south of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edinburgh\u2019s\ncompact size means that cycling and walking are also popular options for\ngetting around. The city has an extensive network of cycling routes<\/a> which are a great way to stay fit and\nhealthy whilst taking in the beautiful city sights.<\/p>\n\n\n
