A former Saxon village originally known as \u201cEcca&#8217;s Bocheland\u201d\nafter the local Saxon lord, Eggbuckland was subsumed into the Plymouth suburban\narea in the 1970s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With three\nareas of outstanding natural beauty on the doorstep \u2013 the Tamar Valley,\nDartmoor National Park and the stunning South Devon AONB \u2013 great commuter links\nvia the A38 to the south of the suburb and competitive house prices,\nEggbuckland is popular with homebuyers who love its village like feel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past\n12 months the average house price for Eggbuckland was \u00a3219,891. This is less\nthan the national average, similar to prices in Plymouth overall and\nsignificantly more affordable than the county of Devon (\u00a3292,651) and the South\nWest overall (\u00a3321,247). Terraced properties sell for around \u00a3170,000 in\nEggbuckland, semi-detached properties at around \u00a3210,000 and detached\nproperties around \u00a3315,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what else does\nthis popular suburb have to offer? Read on to find out more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport links <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only 3 miles from the\ncentre of Plymouth, Eggbuckland has good transport links. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For drivers, the A38\nDevon Expressway to the south makes it an ideal spot for commuters into central\nPlymouth and the A386 to the east provides easy access to Appledore and North Devon.\nExeter Airport is only 49 minutes\u2019 drive for those travelling further afield. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eggbuckland is also\nserved by a number of local <a href=\"https:\/\/bustimes.org\/localities\/eggbuckland\">bus routes<\/a> including the 27 between Plymouth City Centre and Derriford Hospital,\nthe 28S between Plymouth City Centre and Mainstone and the 85 to Milehouse. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plymouth train\nstation is only 11 minutes away and offers direct services on the Great Western\nRailway Line to Penzance in Cornwall (in 1 hour 50 minutes), Exeter St David\u2019s\n(in 57 minutes), London Paddington (in just over 3 hours) and Leeds (in 5 hours\n30 minutes) to name but a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fans of two-wheels\nwill also find plenty of scenic local cycle routes locally too, including the Devon\nCoast to Coast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustrans.org.uk\/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network\/devon-coast-to-coast\">route<\/a>, the National Cycle Network (NCN) routes 2 and 27 and various routes\nthrough the centre of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouth.gov.uk\/parkingandtravel\/plymotion\/walkingcyclingandpublictransport\/cycling\/cycleroutes\">Plymouth<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest station<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwr.com\/plan-journey\/stations-and-routes\/plymouth\">Plymouth Rail Station<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eggbuckland has a\ngood selection of schools to choose from locally. There are two secondary\nschools, five primary schools and one school focusing on special educational\nneeds and disabilities, which are as follows. The majority of settings have\nbeen rated as \u2018Good\u2019 by Ofsted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Widey Court Primary School and Pre-School <\/li><li>Eggbuckland Vale Primary School <\/li><li>St. Edward\u2019s Church Primary School <\/li><li>Manadon Vale Primary School <\/li><li>Austin Farm Community Primary School <\/li><li>St Boniface Catholic College<\/li><li>Eggbuckland Community College <\/li><li>Courtlands Special School <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of\nindependent schools, the highly rated Plymouth College day and boarding school\ncan also be found locally. For further and higher education, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityplym.ac.uk\/\">City\nCollege Plymouth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouthart.ac.uk\/\">Plymouth College of Art<\/a> and the highly rated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouth.ac.uk\/\">University\nof Plymouth<\/a> are all on the\ndoorstep. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the younger members of the\nfamily, Eggbuckland has several baby and toddler groups at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stedwards.church\/connect-before-import\/events-and-activities-before-import\/youth-children-and-families-before-import\/eddy-bears-before-import\/\">St Edwards Church<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crownhillmethodist.org.uk\/joom25\/index.php\/church-family\/parent-toddlers\">Crownhill Methodist Church<\/a>, the Crownhill Family Centre and the Crownlands\nChildren\u2019s Centre, plus a number of popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daynurseries.co.uk\/day_nursery_search_results.cfm\/searchtown\/Eggbuckland#locations-top\">day nurseries<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drakecircus.com\/\">Drake Circus<\/a> shopping\ncentre in Plymouth is less than 15 minutes away and home to around 70 high\nstreet retailers including Apple, M&amp;S, Boots, Next and many more plus an\nimpressive range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drakecircus.com\/barcode\">eateries<\/a>, a 14 screen\ncinema and two 18-hole indoor adventure golf courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst Eggbuckland is a mainly residential area, there are\nstill a range of shops and services locally, including two Co-ops and the\nEggbuckland Convenience store for all the essentials and handy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouthgardencentre.co.uk\/\">Plymouth Garden Centre<\/a>, plus a post office,\npharmacy, GP surgery and library and wellbeing hub in adjacent Crownhill. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eatery wise, if you\ndon\u2019t fancy the bright lights of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitplymouth.co.uk\/explore\/areas-to-visit\/city-centre\">Plymouth<\/a>, Eggbuckland is home to a tempting selection of eateries such as Indian\nrestaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Nibana-Restaurant-374564262650991\/\">Nibana<\/a>, cosy pubs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/theprincemaurice\/\">The Prince Maurice<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk\/pubs\/devon\/tamar\/\">The Tamar<\/a>, plus the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouthgardencentre.co.uk\/coffee-shop\/i70\">Garden Centre Caf\u00e9<\/a> for when only a cuppa and cake will\ndo! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its proximity\nto central Plymouth, Eggbuckland also has a good amount of scenic, outdoor\nspace on the doorstep. The stunning moorland of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dartmoor.gov.uk\/\">Dartmoor\nNational Park<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamarvalley.org.uk\/\">Tamar\nValley AONB<\/a> and the beautiful\nbeaches and scenic landscape of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southdevonaonb.org.uk\/\">South\nDevon AONB<\/a> are particular\nhighlights. The sandy beaches and popular seaside resorts of Paignton and\nTorquay are also less than an hour away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More locally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouth.gov.uk\/parksnatureandgreenspaces\/findplayground\">Frogmore Field and Play Park<\/a> and the Bladder Meadow Park and Play\nPark are also popular and work is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouthherald.co.uk\/news\/plymouth-news\/gallery\/inside-eggbuckland-keep-historic-fort-4385096\">underway<\/a> to restore historic Eggbuckland Keep to its former glory.&nbsp;
