Once a small,\nrural, Saxon settlement and part of the village of Willesden, Harlesden\nbenefitted from the industrial revolution and the arrival of the railway. The\narea is still home to the well-known McVities Biscuit Factory which first\nopened in 1902 and the iconic Jubilee Clock which was given to Harlesden as a royal\ngift in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria\u2019s Golden Jubilee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the area is\na multi-cultural metropolitan melting pot with a vibrant Irish, Portuguese,\nBrazilian, Somali, and Caribbean community and Harlesden is known as London\u2019s\ncapital of reggae. Well known residents include ex EastEnders Steve McFadden\nand Shane Ritchie, boxer Audley Harrison, comedian Marlon Davis and documentary\nfilmmaker and journalist Louis Theroux.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Homebuyers\nappreciate the tranquility of Roundwood Park and King Edward VII Park, the\nhandy transport links from Harlesden Station and nearby Willesden Junction and\nthe competitive property prices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can certainly\nget more for your money in Harlesden which has seen its popularity rise in\nrecent years but hasn\u2019t fallen prey to the gentrification and subsequent\nsoaring house prices seen in much of the city. Indeed, the average price of\nproperties in the area was \u00a3521,515 over the last 12 months, significantly less\nthan London overall (\u00a3670,601) and pricey North West London (\u00a3845,004) in\nparticular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what is it actually like to live in\nHarlesden? Let\u2019s find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport links <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zone 3 Harlesden has a dedicated\nrailway station that offers both Bakerloo Line and London Overground services\non the Watford DC Line. Direct services are available to London Euston and\nWatford Junction via Wembley, Elephant &amp; Castle, Kensal Green and Harrow\n&amp; Wealdstone. Nearby Willesden Junction, which sits on the border of Zones\n2 and 3 is served by the Bakerloo Line and three branches of the London Overground:\nthe Watford DC Line, North London Line (between Richmond and Stratford) and\nWest London Line (to Clapham Junction). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also proposed plans to\nreestablish rail services on the Southern Railway line between Milton Keynes Central\/Watford\nJunction and South Croydon\/East Croydon and the London Northwestern Railway\nline between London Euston and Tring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Frequent <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/bus\/stop\/HUBHDN\/harlesden\">bus services<\/a> run throughout Harlesden too, some of\nwhich offer 24-hour access. Routes include the 187 between Finchley Road and Central\nMiddlesex Hospital, the 224 between Neasden and Alperton, the 226 between Ealing\nBroadway and Golders Green station and the 487 to South Harrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re travelling by motor vehicle,\nHarlesden is served by the A407 and is close to the North Circular (A406) and\nthe M25, making it easy to get in, out or around the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest train stations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/overground\/stop\/910GHARLSDN\/harlesden-rail-station\">Harlesden Rail Station<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/hub\/stop\/HUBWIJ\/willesden-junction\">Willesden Junction<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/tube\/stop\/940GZZLUSGP\/stonebridge-park-underground-station\">Stonebridge Park<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools and education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harlesden and the wider Borough of\nBrent are home to many excellent primary and secondary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For little ones setting out on their\neducational journey, there are at least <a href=\"https:\/\/members.locrating.com\/the-best-Primary-schools-in-Harlesden_London_England.aspx\">11 primary schools<\/a> within Harlesden\u2019s catchment\narea, many of which sport an \u2018outstanding\u2019 Ofsted rating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have bigger kids moving onto the\nnext phase of learning, Harlesden boasts at least nine <a href=\"https:\/\/members.locrating.com\/the-best-Secondary-schools-in-Harlesden_London_England.aspx\">secondary school settings<\/a>, four of which are rated \u2018outstanding\u2019\nby Ofsted and many of which provide sixth-form education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you have young adults looking for a\nmore independent higher education experience? The nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnwl.ac.uk\/\">College of North West London<\/a> is a vibrant campus that offers a mix\nof academic courses as well as apprenticeships and vocational options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh, and let\u2019s not forget those tiny\ntots. Harlesden is also home to a choice of respected (and certified) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.munchkinpot.co.uk\/nurseries\/nurseries-in-harlesden\">day nurseries and\nplaygroups<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a well-connected, north west London suburb,\nHarlesden offers excellent links to Oxford Street, the shopping behemoth\nWestfields, the impressive vintage treasures of Portobello Market and\nScandinavian homewares of IKEA Wembley for a serious retail fix. Closer to home,\nthere is everything you need when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-shops.co.uk\/NW10\/harlesden\/\">high street essentials<\/a>. And, as the area is famed for its\nCaribbean community, you\u2019ll find a treasure trove of independently owned stores\nand eateries you just won\u2019t find anywhere else. For the big weekly food shop,\nHarlesden is home to a Tesco, Iceland, and the Blue Mountain Peak Supermarket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re looking to get active and\nwork up a sweat, the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.better.org.uk\/leisure-centre\/london\/wembley\/wembley-leisure-centre\/facilities\">Wembley Leisure Centre<\/a> is a popular spot that boasts\na six-lane, 25-metre swimming pool as well as a fully-equipped modern gym and\nadditional sports facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another perk of living in Harlesden is\nits access to excellent parks and green open spaces. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brent.gov.uk\/services-for-residents\/culture-leisure-and-parks\/parks-and-allotments\/park-finder\/roundwood-park\/\">Roundwood Park<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brent.gov.uk\/services-for-residents\/culture-leisure-and-parks\/parks-and-allotments\/park-finder\/king-edward-vii-park-wembley\/\">King Edward VII Park<\/a> and Tiverton Green offer a\ncaf\u00e9, formal gardens, wildlife areas, tennis courts, sports facilities, outdoor\ngym equipment and children\u2019s play areas.
