Norwich\nis a quirky little historic city with a tight knit community and strong sense\nof identity. It\u2019s part of Norfolk, which is situated on the East Coast. There\nare plenty of opportunities for employment (the area is one of the biggest hubs\nfor the insurance industry in Europe), education, property and a whole host of\narts and cultural amenities locally. The city is also surrounded by the beautiful\nNorfolk countryside and offers the perfect combination of urban living,\ncountryside escapism and coastline<\/a> exploration. The\nspectacular Norfolk Broads<\/a> are located just\noutside of Norwich too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Norwich\nhas great transport links despite its easterly location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nA11 provides connections to Cambridge and London in 1 hour 27 minutes and 2 hours,\nrespectively. The nearby A47 passes around the edge of the city from Kings Lynn\nto Great Yarmouth and the A40 connects Norwich to Ipswich and the south or\nCromer and the north. There is a one-way system in place for drivers in Norwich\nitself which is designed to reduce rush hour traffic.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When\nit comes to public transport, there is a direct train running to London\nLiverpool Street in just 2 hours and other major cities like Nottingham,\nManchester, Sheffield and Liverpool can also be accessed from Norwich. There\nare direct trains running locally to Great Yarmouth, Sheringham, Cambridge and\nLowestoft and all trains depart from Norwich Train Station<\/a> which is on the\nNorthern Terminus on the Great Eastern Mainline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich International\nAirport<\/a>\nis a small international airport 4km north of Norwich itself. Flights are\navailable to many countries including popular holiday destinations such as\nGreece, Cyprus, Italy and Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting\naround this compact city is also easy to do on foot, including the pedestrianised\ncentre. Norwich is very \u201cbike friendly\u201d too and there are enough cycle routes<\/a> to keep even the keenest cyclists\nhappy. There are also frequent bus services<\/a> around Norwich city\ncentre and surrounding suburbs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many\nfamilies choose to relocate to Norwich because it has some of the best schools<\/a> in East Anglia. The\ncity has 103 schools and colleges altogether, 23 of which have received an\n\u201coutstanding\u201d rating from Ofsted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nmost highly rated school in the city has to be Norwich School<\/a>; an independent school\nfor girls and boys aged 4-18. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nsecondary schools, Norwich High School for\nGirls<\/a> aged\n3-18 was awarded \u201cIndependent Girls School of the Year 2019\u201d.  Notre Dame High School<\/a> is a close second locally\nand highly regarded. Ormiston Venture\nAcademy<\/a>\nis another popular choice.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nfurther education, the City College Norwich<\/a> has plenty of options\nfor A-Levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships with full time or part\ntime options available. It has two vibrant campuses, both situated in Norwich\ncity. Easton College<\/a> offers specialist\nfacilities for ages 16-18 and adults alike, all set in a beautiful 200 acres. University\nTechnical College Norfolk<\/a> is good for any student who has an interest in maths,\ncomputing, engineering, science or technology. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nis also a strong student community locally thanks to Norwich\nUniversity of the Arts<\/a> (ranking in the top 50 of the Rookies Global School\nRanking 2020<\/a>)\nand the nearby University of East Anglia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich\nis one of the UK\u2019s top shopping destinations. The city centre is home to two\nshopping centres: Chantry Place<\/a> and the Castle Mall<\/a>. Both of which provide shoppers with\nbig-name-retail brands. The malls also have a wide selection of entertainment\noutlets and eateries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nthose looking for a more unique shopping experience, head to the Norwich Lanes<\/a>, the Cathedral Quarter<\/a> and Magdalen Street<\/a> for a good selection\nof boutique shops. Lovers of vintage, collectables, art and fashion will be\ncompletely content here. A truly unique shop has to be The Bear Shop<\/a>, selling hundreds of bruins for children and\ncollectors alike and an iconic tourist attraction in itself. If you are a bread\nlover, head to Bread Source<\/a> for some simple yet\ndelicious produce. The artisan bakery is considered one of the best spots to\npick up a coffee and treat in Norwich. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich Cathedral<\/a> is a must visit as\nboth a heritage centre and a living centre for worship, learning, art and\nhospitality. Nightlight\nin Norwich is buzzing thanks to the student community. There are many cosy\npubs, cocktail bars, gigs\/music venues and nightclubs to choose from catering\nfor all tastes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich\nis also an extremely green city with 23 parks<\/a> and a woodland running\nthrough it. There are miles of riverside walks, cycle paths, wildlife sanctuaries,\nwaterways and nearby beaches. Visit Plantation Garden<\/a> for some tranquillity\nand Whitlingham County Park<\/a> for some nature\nspotting. Norwich\nis a city for festivals and markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Norfolk and Norwich Festival<\/a> is the most popular\nannual event. It showcases theatrical performances, circus acts, amazing music\nand mesmerising dance acts and is one of the oldest city festivals in England.\nThe touring Gin and Rum Festival<\/a> is also popular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich\nwas named the world\u2019s sixth \u201cCity of Literature\u201d in 2012 by UNESCO and,\naccordingly, there are many literacy focused highlights. These include The City of Literature\nFestival<\/a>\n(a weekend of talks and debates), the Norwich Crime Writing\nFestival<\/a>\nand of course The University of East Anglia\u2019s Literacy\nFestivals.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be\nsure to head to Norwich Market<\/a>, the largest open-air\nmarket in the country with over 200 stalls which is open 6 days a week. The\nmarket sells everything from fresh local produce to flowers and crafts. There\nare also heaps of \u201cpop-up\u201d bars and eateries for refuelling as you wander around.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nsomething a little different, Norwich Theatre\nPlayhouse<\/a>\nis known for its quirky, off beat shows and locals love grabbing a drink afterwards\nin the leafy, riverside terrace bar. There are also several local cinemas to\nchoose from to watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters or some old favourites. The Picture House<\/a> is a 3-screen cinema\nset in a charming courtyard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich\nhas plenty of bowling alleys and a mini golf course along with the popular escape\nroom venue Cryptic Escape<\/a> to challenge your\nproblem-solving skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fitness\nfanatics also enjoy Norwich for its sporting scene. To get the adrenaline\npumping visit one of the trampoline parks<\/a>, Norfolk Snowsports Club<\/a> or The Sportspark.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
