This historic market town in Suffolk\nhas also made the list of \u201cTop 10 Places to Live in Suffolk\u201d<\/a> by Good Move. It has\ngreat transport connections to the East Coast, other towns and cities locally and\nthe rest of the UK. Many families also relocate here due to the range of highly\nrated schools in the town and surrounding suburban areas.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bury\nSt Edmunds was once home to England\u2019s first patron saint, St Edmund, and is a\ncharming town brimming with history and character. It is famous for St Edmundsbury Cathedral<\/a> and the stunning Abbey Grounds<\/a> surrounding it. The\ntown is also associated with malting, brewing AND the factory that produces Silver Spoon Sugar<\/a>! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bury\nSt Edmunds is an ideal location for those who want easy access to the idyllic countryside\nand breath-taking coastline, but with all the amenities and buzz of a town. The\ncentre of Bury itself has an abundance of restaurants, bars, high street shops\nand quirky independent retailers. Surrounding the town, you have picturesque\nvillages and magnificent landscapes to satisfy any need for escapism or rural\nliving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bury\nSt Edmunds is in a great location with a good network of local roads. The A14\nlinks you to Cambridge, Ipswich and Colchester, all within an hour\u2019s drive. You\ncan also get to London in just under 2 hours by taking the A14 and M11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By\ntrain, you can reach all the biggest towns and cities in the area. Ipswich is\n40 minutes away, Cambridge and Colchester 85 minutes and London just 1 hour 32\nminutes on the fast train, with a whopping 92 services a day between Bury St\nEdmunds and either London Liverpool Street or London St Pancras International. Bury St Edmunds Train\nStation<\/a>\nis situated within walking distance of the town centre. There are also several\nother smaller train stations dotted around the area for effortless connections\nto the whole East Coast region. Bury\nSt Edmunds is a \u201cwalkable\u201d town. All the attractions, shops, bars and amenities\nare only a short stroll from one another and there are a number of scenic, circular\nwalking routes<\/a> available locally.\nThere are also plenty of cycle paths and cycle\nroutes<\/a>\nin Bury St Edmunds and surrounding areas and you can hire bikes from Maglia Rosso<\/a>. The\nlocal West Suffolk College<\/a> offers a wide variety\nof courses for those seeking higher education. The college is also one of the\nleading apprenticeship providers in the UK. Then of course you have the University\nof Suffolk<\/a>\na mere 40 minutes away with a good range of <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bury\nSt Edmunds is home to over 200 shopping outlets. These line the medieval\nstreets and picturesque Georgian squares allowing for hours of leisurely\nbrowsing. Visit the friendly family run business, The Parsley Pot<\/a>, for any type of gift for any occasion, Pocket Watch and Petite Coats<\/a> for glamorous retro\nclothing, or indulge in your sweet tooth at Auntie Pam’s Sweet Shop<\/a>. The Angel<\/a> is the place to be for fine dining and\nviews of the Abbey Gardens and Bury has a good selection of countryside and\ntown centre pubs plus stylish cocktail bars. Bury\nSt Edmunds is surrounded by idyllic Suffolk countryside, perfect for walks and\nfresh air. In Bury itself, the two \u201cmust-see\u201d places of interest are the\nCathedral (the only one in Suffolk!) and the Abbey. Nearby Newton Park<\/a> is home to 200 acres\nof landscaped countryside to explore and let off some steam, full of exotic\ntrees from around the world. It has over 300\nstalls across the Abbey Gardens and the town centre together with live music\nand entertainment. It truly encompasses the spirit of Christmas. For the more\n\u201cgreen- fingered\u201d amongst us, the Whitsun Fayre<\/a> is held on the last\nbank holiday weekend in May. The town comes alive with bursts of colour from\nflowers, plants, stalls, fairground rides and even an urban beach. Don\u2019t miss\nthe Punch and Judy Show! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nfoodies, Bury St Edmunds Food\nand Drink Festival<\/a>\nis paradise. With over 100 stalls from top chefs and farmers, the town is\nturned into a mouth-watering delight. And let\u2019s not forget the 10 day Bury St Edmunds Festival<\/a> with live music, film,\ntheatre, exhibitions and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nthe stunning grounds of the Cathedral and Abbey Gardens, you have the UK\u2019s only\nremaining Regency playhouse, The Theatre Royal<\/a>.
