Originally a hamlet in Middlesex dating back to the Early\nMiddle Ages, Enfield joined the Greater London conurbation in 1965 under the London\nGovernment Act 1963. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, what makes\nEnfield an attractive spot for homeowners? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Proximity to swathes\nof green belt and a plethora of outdoor space? A great selection of schools?\nThe painless commute into central London? Enfield seems to be a popular\ncompromise between city living and a full-blown relocation to the countryside\nof Essex and Hertfordshire beyond. Competitive house prices don\u2019t hurt either! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, the\narea had an average property price of \u00a3425,898 in the last 12 months,\nsignificantly cheaper than average property prices for the rest of the Borough\n(\u00a3502,355), North London (\u00a3795,292) and London overall (\u00a3670,601). The range of\nproperties locally caters for all tastes too, with a mix of Georgian, Victorian\nand inter war period properties interspersed with more modern developments such\nas Trent Park and purpose-built flats with shared equity properties also\navailable. Suburban conservation area Enfield Chase, Winchmore Hill and Oakwood\nare particularly sought after. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interested to\nfind out more about this popular North London enclave. Keep reading! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport\nlinks<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enfield Town\nstation is the northern terminus for the Overground route to Liverpool Street,\na journey of around 34 minutes door to door. You can pick up the Central,\nCircle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith &amp; City lines and various rail services\nat Liverpool Street but it is also possible to change to the Victoria Line at\nSeven Sisters, 16 minutes from Enfield Town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enfield Chase\nrail station is located on the Great Northern rail line with regular services\nto Moorgate in around half an hour and London King\u2019s Cross in around 25 minutes,\nalthough many commuters change at Finsbury Park or Highbury &amp; Islington for\nthe Piccadilly and Victoria lines or the Highbury &amp; Islington branch of the\nOverground. The nearest underground station is Oakwood on the Piccadilly line\u2019s\nCockfosters branch. All stations are in Zone 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also\nregular <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/bus\/stop\/490G01101L\/enfield-town-station\">bus services<\/a> throughout Enfield including the 313\ntowards Chingford and Potters Bar, the 231 to Turnpike Lane, the 456 towards\nNorth Middlesex Hospital and the N29 night bus between Enfield Town and\nTrafalgar Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For drivers, the\nA10 is on the doorstep as is the North Circular between Woolwich and Chiswick. Enfield\nis also a short distance from junction 25 of the M25 for travelling further\nafield. For travelling further afield, London City Airport, Stansted Airport\nand Luton Airport are all within an hour\u2019s drive from the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest\nstations <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/overground\/stop\/910GENFLDTN\/enfield-town-rail-station\">Enfield Town<\/a> (Overground)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/enfield-chase\">Enfield Chase<\/a> (Rail)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The borough of Enfield\nis home to a great selection of both state and private primary and secondary\nschools with the vast majority receiving either a \u2018good\u2019 or \u2018outstanding\u2019\nrating from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/find-a-school-in-england\">Ofsted<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outstanding\nprimary schools in Enfield itself include St George\u2019s RC, Eversley, Worcesters,\nForty Hill CofE, Kingfisher Hall and Enfield Heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes\nto local secondary schools, Enfield County for girls and Highlands are both\nconsidered \u201coutstanding\u201d, as is Ark John Keats Academy which is named in honour\nof one of Enfield\u2019s most famous scholars. Grammar schools Enfield Grammar for boys,\nnearby Latymer in Edmonton and Henrietta Barnett, Mill Hill County High, Queen\nElizabeth\u2019s and St Michael\u2019s RC in the Borough of Barnet are also highly rated.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a\nnumber of popular independent schools in the area too. Grange Park Prep and\nKeble Prep for boys are popular prep schools and Bancroft\u2019s and Forest School\neducate ages 7-18 and 4-18 respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those of\npre-school age, there are also a great range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happity.co.uk\/enfield\/baby-toddler-classes\">groups and classes<\/a> locally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and\namenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its\nclose proximity to central London, Enfield is home to a surprising amount of green,\noutdoor space. This comes courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openplay.co.uk\/view\/809\/town-park\">Enfield Town Park<\/a>\nwhich runs alongside the scenic New River, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksandgardens.org\/places\/chase-green-gardens-and-gentlemans-row\">Chase Green Gardens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goparks.london\/park\/bush-hill-park\/\">Bush Hill Park<\/a>\nand the <a href=\"https:\/\/new.enfield.gov.uk\/orgs-at-enfield-playing-fields.pdf\">Enfield Playing Fields<\/a>. The stunning country park <a href=\"http:\/\/trentcountrypark.com\/Welcome.html\">Trent\nPark<\/a> and impressive\nJacobean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortyhallestate.co.uk\/\">Forty\nHall Estate<\/a> set in 273 acres\nof parklands and home to a fishing lake, organic farm and popular caf\u00e9 are also\nnearby, as are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitleevalley.org.uk\/gardens-and-heritage\/myddelton-house-gardens-\">Myddelton House<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capelmanorgardens.co.uk\/\">Capel\nManor House and Gardens<\/a>\nwhich still have many links to Enfield\u2019s impressive horticulturalist past. To\nreally get back to nature, 6,000-acre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visiteppingforest.org\/\">Epping\nForest<\/a> is only 25\nminutes\u2019 drive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Popular with\nfamilies, the area has plenty more high-octane amenities for keeping little\npeople happy, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gojumpin.com\/locations\/enfield-adventure-park\">Jump In<\/a> trampoline park, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.team-sport.co.uk\/go-karting-london-north\/\">TeamSport Indoor Karting<\/a> and a soft play centre in the Town Park.\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fusion-lifestyle.com\/centres\/southbury-leisure-centre\/\">Southbury Leisure Centre<\/a> also provides a range of sporting\nfacilities for all ages including a 25-metre swimming pool and a huge selection\nof fitness classes.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Head to the <a href=\"https:\/\/palaceshopping.co.uk\/\">Palace\nExchange and Palace Gardens<\/a>\nshopping centre in the middle of town for high street favourites such as M&amp;S,\nH&amp;M, Superdrug and Robert Dyas. Big supermarkets such as Sainsburys, Tesco,\nWaitrose and Lidl have a local presence also. Department store, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pearsonsenfield.co.uk\/\">Pearsons\nof Enfield<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holtwhitesbakery.co.uk\/\">Holtwhites<\/a> artisan bakery and deli and family run\nfurniture store <a href=\"https:\/\/furncrafts.co.uk\/\">Furncrafts<\/a> fly the flag for independent retailers\nin the area and there are a number of out of town shopping centres on the A10\nas well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes\nto dining out, Enfield is home to all of the regular chain restaurants like Wagamama,\nPizza Express and Nando\u2019s. For something a little more exciting, head to\nItalian restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaza.co.uk\/restaurants\/enfield\">Zaza<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/beautiful.south.restaurant\/\">The Beautiful South<\/a> for modern European and Mediterranean\ncuisine and Indian restaurant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saathirestaurant.co.uk\/\">Saathi<\/a>. Gastropubs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk\/pubs\/middlesex\/crown-horseshoes\/\">The Crown &amp; Horseshoes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcmullens.co.uk\/cricketersenfield\">The Cricketers<\/a>\nand <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebeehivebhp.co.uk\/\">The Beehive<\/a>\nare also popular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s on?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An official\nmarket town since the early 14<sup>th<\/sup> century, Enfield still hosts a busy\n<a href=\"https:\/\/enfieldmarket.co.uk\/\">market<\/a> in the historic market square every Thursday,\nFriday and Saturday 9am \u2013 4pm. This includes fresh meats, seafood, baked goods,\ngifts and homewares plus a food court selling international street food. Or you\ncan pick your own fruit and vegetables straight from the ground or vine\ncourtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidefarmpyo.co.uk\/\">Parkside Farm<\/a>\u2019s regular PYO events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enfield\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dugdalecentre.co.uk\/\">Dugdale\nCentre<\/a> is an arts and\nbusiness centre with a busy programme of plays, musicals, live music and films.\nIt is also home to a theatre, art gallery, popular caf\u00e9 and the Museum of\nEnfield which details Enfield\u2019s long and varied local history.
