The south east London suburb of Sydenham falls under three boroughs: Southwark and Lewisham to the north and Bromley to the south. A medieval settlement originally known as Shippenham; Sydenham became popular in the Georgian era thanks to its reputation for therapeutic spring water. Well-heeled commuters arrived in the 19th<\/sup> century following the arrival of the Croydon Canal, a railway line connecting the area to London Bridge and Croydon and the impressive Crystal Palace structure which was relocated from Hyde Park to Sydenham Hill in 1854. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Sydenham is primarily a hotspot for families thanks to\nan impressive array of green, outdoor space like Crystal Palace Park, Sydenham\nWells Park and Sydenham Hill Wood plus some great schools. The area offers a\nthriving community full of independent retailers, lively pubs, bars and\nexciting eateries for the grownups too. Only 6 miles from central London,\ntransport links are also excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Property wise, the average house price in Sydenham in the\nlast year was \u00a3544,505, around 5% less than South East London overall and\nsignificantly cheaper than nearby Southwark, Lewisham and Bromley hotspots Dulwich\nVillage (\u00a31,775,616), Dulwich (\u00a3850,855), Park Langley (\u00a31,122,193) and\nBlackheath (\u00a3689,771). Zone 3 Sydenham is home to some excellent transport links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydenham station on Sydenham High Street is home to both\nOverground and rail services on the Highbury & Islington and Southern lines.\nThere are regular rail services to London Bridge in 20 minutes, Overground\nservices to Canada Water in 15 minutes and Shadwell in 20 minutes where you can\nchange to the Jubilee Line and DLR respectively.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydenham Hill station on the Southeastern Chatham Main Line\noffers trains to London Victoria in a speedy 14 minutes, and Blackfriars and\nOrpington in 20 minutes. Zone 4 Lower Sydenham station which is on the Southeastern\nHayes Line has rail services to Cannon Street in 29 minutes, Charing Cross in 28\nminutes, London Waterloo East in 20 minutes, and London Bridge in 14 minutes. There\nare also southbound services available to Hayes in Kent in 17 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydenham has regular\nbus services<\/a> throughout the area, including the 176\nto Tottenham Court Road via Dulwich and Waterloo, the 75 between Croydon and\nLewisham, the 122 to Plumstead and the N63 night bus from Crystal Palace to\nKing\u2019s Cross via central London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For drivers,\nthe A212 from Lewisham to Croydon intersects the town and the South Circular\nbetween the Woolwich Ferry and Chiswick Flyover (via Catford, Dulwich, Clapham\nCommon, Wandsworth and Kew Bridge) is on the doorstep. For travelling further\nafield, Gatwick Airport is just over 45 minutes\u2019 drive and Heathrow Airport\njust over an hour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
