With great access to London and\nmany of south east England\u2019s most notable destinations, plus plenty of things\nto see or do on the doorstep, Hockley is becoming an increasingly popular place\nto live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Homebuyers are drawn to a plethora of outdoor\nspace in the shape of Hockley Woods, Marylands Nature Reserve, Magnolia Park\nand Nature Reserve plus the beautiful Essex coastline, great schools, and\nexcellent transport links. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And whilst the town\u2019s average house\nprice of \u00a3453,231 over the last year is more expensive than Essex overall, it\nis certainly more affordable than nearby Ramsden Bellhouse (\u00a31,270,000),\nIngatestone (640,781) and Billericay (\u00a3510,850).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what is it actually\nlike to live in Hockley?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considering it\u2019s a village, Hockey is\nwell connected when it comes to transport links. Hockley Railway Station sits\non the Shenfield Line, offering regular connections to London Liverpool Street in\nas little as 43 minutes as well as some of Essex\u2019s major destinations like Southend\nVictoria (in 13 minutes) or Chelmsford (in 40 minutes). The station also offers\nreliable links to East Anglia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hockley also boasts a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/bustimes.org\/localities\/hockley-essex\">bus routes<\/a> that serve the area\nextensively while offering links to nearby destinations including Rayleigh,\nLeigh-on-Sea, Prittlewell, and Rochford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those travelling by car, Hockley is\nserved by a number of road networks (including the A1245 and A127) that provide\nlinks to the Essex coast as well as destinations across the south of England\nincluding easy access to the M25 and Chelmsford to the north.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For destinations further afield, <a href=\"https:\/\/southendairport.com\/\">London Southend Airport<\/a> is less than 10 minutes away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest train stations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/hockley\">Hockley Railway Station<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/rayleigh\">Rayleigh Railway Station<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/rochford\">Rochford Railway Station<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a good selection of primary\nschools, secondary schools, and institutions offering suitable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essex.gov.uk\/school-places-for-children-with-send\">SEND (Special Educational\nNeeds &amp; Disabilities) provision<\/a> in the local area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hockley has at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/\">eight<\/a> primary schools within its catchment\narea, most of which boast an Ofsted rating of Good or Outstanding. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockley.essex.sch.uk.\/\">Hockley Primary School<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grovewoodprimary.co.uk\/\">Grove Wood Primary School<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rayleighprimary.org.uk\/\">Raleigh Primary School<\/a> in nearby Raleigh are all highly\nrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For slightly more grownup kids taking\nthat next big step up, Hockley is home to a selection of well-regarded\nsecondary school settings including <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.google.com\/aetinet.org\/greenswardwebsite\/home\">Greensward Academy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastwoodacademy.co.uk\/\">The Eastwood Academy<\/a> in nearby Leigh-on-Sea. <a href=\"http:\/\/sweynepark.com\/\">The\nSweyne Park School<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingsdownschool.org\/\">Kingsdown School<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestchristopherschool.co.uk\/\">The St Christopher School<\/a> which have specialist SEN status are\nalso highly rated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to higher education, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southessex.ac.uk\/\">South Essex College<\/a> has four modern campuses dotted around\nthe county (one of which is located in nearby Southend-on-Sea). Every campus\noffers a varied choice of academic courses, vocational qualifications, and\napprenticeships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh, and let\u2019s not leave out those tiny\ntots. Hockley also plays host to a top choice of &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happity.co.uk\/hockley\/baby-toddler-classes\">playgroups, classes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whichnursery.com\/nursery-search\/hockley\/essex\/\">pre-schools, and day nurseries<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hockley is home to all of the grocery\nessentials such as Tesco, Sainsburys and Co-op alongside a good range of independent\nshops such as men\u2019s fashion store <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standout.co.uk\/\">Standout<\/a>, the children\u2019s clothes shop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daniellesshop.co.uk\/\">Danielle\u2019s<\/a>, glitzy giftshop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dotandethels\/\">Dot &amp; Ethel\u2019s<\/a>, award-winning, family-run kitchen shop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.potterscookshop.co.uk\/\">Potter\u2019s Cookshop<\/a> and popular garden centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hockleymarketgarden\">Hockley Market Garden<\/a>. Head to nearby Southend-on-Sea for a serious retail fix at the\nregally named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalsshoppingcentre.co.uk\/\">Royals Shopping Centre<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/victoriasc.co.uk\/\">Victoria\nShopping Centre<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For anyone into their health and\nfitness, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fusion-lifestyle.com\/centres\/rayleigh-leisure-centre\/\">Rayleigh Leisure Centre<\/a> (part of the Fusion Lifestyle\nGroup) offers a range of fitness suites, well-maintained sports areas, a fully-equipped\ngym, and a good sized swimming pool. There is more high octane fun available at\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockley-airsoft-arena.com\/\">Hockley Airsoft Area<\/a> or for the smaller members of\nthe family, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monkey-bizzness.co.uk\/\">Monkey Bizzness<\/a> soft play.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or take a trip into the great outdoors.\nThe Essex coast is less than 15 minutes\u2019 drive and closer still is the\nwonderful <a href=\"https:\/\/hockleywoods.com\/\">Hockley Woods<\/a>\u2014a scenic natural spot with\nwalking trails, cycling routes, picnic areas, and a wealth of stunning wildlife\nand picturesque scenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s on?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a relatively small village with a strong\ncommunity feel, Hockley hosts regular events such as the quiz night, live music,\nand annual beer festival at local\u2019s favourite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chefandbrewer.com\/pubs\/essex\/bull\/\">The Bull<\/a>, a 16<sup>th<\/sup> century Grade II listed traditional pub on the\nedge of Hockley Woods.
