A relative\nnewcomer when it comes to East End hotspots, the vibrant and diverse Mile End is\nlocated in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with Bow and Hackney\nto the north, Limehouse to the south and Stepney, Bethnal Green and Shoreditch to\nthe west. Named in reference to its proximity a mile away from the business\ndistrict of Aldgate in the City of London, Mile End started life as a 13th<\/sup>\ncentury agricultural hamlet and became home to the lower and working classes\nduring the 18th<\/sup> century, particularly migrant workers new to\nLondon.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like much\nof the East End, Mile End was heavily bombed during the Blitz of World War II.\nToday, whilst it is still a little rough round the edges where gentrification hasn\u2019t\nquite kicked in, homebuyers are attracted by the affordable house prices, a rich\ncultural mix where traditional East End London meets a diverse cultural and\ncreative melting pot and a surprising amount of green space and local parks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mile End\nis popular with a variety of homeowners and renters. From wealthy city workers\nand professionals in search of charming Victorian and Georgian period\nproperties and luxury apartment block to students from the nearby Queen Mary Campus\nof the University of London, who are drawn to the large number of more reasonably\npriced, post war and ex-local authority properties and house shares available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town\nis a more affordable option than popular but pricey Shoreditch, Hackney and\nHoxton. Despite its central location in Zone 2, average house prices in Mile\nEnd in the last 12 months were 36% cheaper than the priciest area of Tower\nHamlets, Tower Bridge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less than\n4 miles east from central London, Zone 2 Mile End is extremely well connected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mile End Underground\nStation is on the Central, District and Hammersmith & City Lines and you\ncan be in Liverpool Street in 6 minutes, Tottenham Court Road in 15 minutes and\nEmbankment in 18 minutes, 24 hours a day. There is no train station in Mile\nEnd, but you can pick up rail services to Fenchurch Street and the DLR service direct\nto Canary Wharf in 4 minutes and London City Airport in 15 minutes from nearby\nLimehouse Station and various underground, rail and London Overland services\nfrom Liverpool Street Station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bus services<\/a> are\nfrequent and plentiful and include the 277 to Dalston Junction or the Isle of\nDogs, the 323 to Canning Town, the D6 to Cambridge Heath or Crossharbour, the D7\nto Poplar and the N277 night bus between Angel and the Isle of Dogs. The Cycle Superhighway 2<\/a> between Stratford and the City of London\nbusiness district also runs along Mile End Road and there is a Santander Cycle<\/a> docking\nstation in the centre of town on Eric Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst you can drive through Mile End\nand the A11 trunk road from London to Norwich runs through the town, in an\neffort to increase safety and ease congestion and pollution, the Tower Hamlets\nBorough introduced a 20 mile an hour speed limit in 2016. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
