With its community feel, slower pace of life, tempting restaurants,\nindependent shops and great schools, you can see why. Frome is nestled in\nstunning countryside close to the Bristol Channel. It also has an impressive <em>four<\/em>\nareas of outstanding natural beauty on the doorstep and is seen as the gateway\nto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk\/\">Exmoor<\/a>\nNational Park.\nAdd in an easy commute to the nearby cities of Bristol and Bath and there\nreally is something for everyone! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once\nat the heart of the wool and cloth industry, this sociable town with its pretty\nmedieval centre and cobbled streets has been revitalised by a series of\ncommunity focused regeneration initiatives which have seen Frome\u2019s art and food\nscene thrive, particularly in the impressive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverfrome.co.uk\/attraction\/st-catherines\/\">Artisan Quarter<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\nare plenty of sought-after areas in the town, and the average house price in\n2020 was a not unreasonable \u00a3309,986. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interested\nto find out more? You can book a low emissions car\non your phone app and just pay for the fuel you use. Alternatively, you can\nhire an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverfrome.co.uk\/attractions\/outdoors-in-frome\/cycling\/ebike-hire\/\">E-Bike<\/a> locally and there are\nalso 2 electric car charging points in Frome at the Town Hall and Football\nClub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest stations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/frome\">Frome Station<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\nare plenty of highly rated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/schools-by-type?step=default&amp;table=schools&amp;parliamentary=Somerton%20and%20Frome&amp;geographic=parliamentary&amp;for=ofsted\">schools<\/a> in the Frome catchment\narea, 8 of which have received an \u201coutstanding\u201d rating from Ofsted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Primary\nschool options include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selwood.somerset.sch.uk\/\">Selwood,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakfieldacademy.co.uk\/\">Oakfield<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stlouisfrome.co.uk\/\">St Louis Catholic Primary School<\/a>. For independents, <a href=\"https:\/\/wells.cathedral.school\/\">Wells Cathedral School<\/a> offers places for 2-18-year-olds\nand the Steiner Academy, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steineracademyfrome.co.uk\/\">Avanti Park<\/a>, takes a holistic approach\nto learning. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nsecondary schools, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingsbruton.com\/\">Kings Bruton<\/a> is an HMC boarding and\nday school for girls and boys age 13-18. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fromecollege.org\/\">Frome Community College<\/a> is rated \u201cgood\u201d by Ofsted and is popular\nlocally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nthose wanting to further their education, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/\">University\nof Bath<\/a>\nhas been rated 6<sup>th<\/sup> best in the UK and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bathspa.ac.uk\/\">Bath Spa<\/a> is highly regarded for the arts. &nbsp;You also have both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/\">University of Bristol<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwe.ac.uk\/\">UWE<\/a> just an hour away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At\nthe other end of the spectrum, there is a comprehensive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fromeparents.co.uk\/\">schedule<\/a> of activities for parents and toddlers in\nFrome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and Amenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Frome\ntakes enormous pride in its diverse shopping. The roads around Cheap Street and\nCatherine Hill are jam packed with quirky independent retailers selling\njewellery, clothes, art, home d\u00e9cor, books, haberdashery and vintage goods.\nPick up some rustic floral arrangements from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brambleandwild.com\/\">Bramble &amp; Wild<\/a>, page turners from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winstonebooks.co.uk\/frome\">Hunting Ravens Book Shop<\/a> or some show stopping\nvintage fashion from <a href=\"https:\/\/deadlyisthefemale.com\/\">Deadly is the Female<\/a>. Be sure to swing by\nfor a sweet treat at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chocetal.com\/\">Choc et al<\/a>, the quaintest little\nplace choc (sorry!) full of locally produced goodies. Yum! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nthe best, all day dining in Frome (and impressive people watching opportunities),\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eightstonystreet.com\/\">Eight Stoney Street<\/a> is your port of call\nfor breakfast pancakes, all the way through to delectable evening meals with a\nglass of fine wine. <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrolottefrome.co.uk\/\">Bistro Lotto<\/a> offers some tasty\nFrench cuisine and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rye-bakery.com\/\">Rye Bakery<\/a> (in a converted\nchurch) has an amazing vegan chocolate cake, legendary Pizza Nights and an\nindoor playground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\ndrinks, the <a href=\"https:\/\/palmerstbottle.co.uk\/\">Palmer Street Bottle<\/a> has a great selection\nof ciders, craft beers, spirts and wines, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fatradish.co.uk\/\">The Fat Radish<\/a> has the best cocktails in the town.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\nare spoilt for choice for outdoor space in Frome, with the best of the rolling British\ncountryside on the doorstep. There are many walks on offer, including the 50\nmile <a href=\"https:\/\/encounterwalkingholidays.com\/mendip-way-somerset-walking-holiday\">Mendip Way<\/a> which starts in Frome\nand ends in Weston-Super-Mare. The Tourism Office also offers a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverfrome.co.uk\/attractions\/outdoors-in-frome\/walkers-are-welcome\/guided-walks\/\">guided walks<\/a> around Frome if you\nare not quite sure where to start. For cyclists, you can cruise along the picturesque\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustrans.org.uk\/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network\/colliers-way\">Colliers Way<\/a> towards Bath. If you\nhave more time on your hands, head to the North Wessex Downs, Cranbourne Chase,\nthe Quantock Hills or the Blackdown Hills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\na bit of culture, you can explore the grounds of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohnsfrome.com\/\">St Johns Church<\/a> which overlook the town. The Anglican church\nhas a long history and impressive architecture. <a href=\"https:\/\/fromemuseum.wordpress.com\/\">Frome Museum<\/a> is also worth a visit. This historic\nbuilding is in the centre of the town and features industrial and local history\ncollections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s On?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Frome\nis a town for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverfrome.co.uk\/attractions\/markets\/\">markets<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\nare general markets every Wednesday and Saturday 9am &#8211; 3pm at the Cattle Market\nCar Park. Then there is the Frome Country Market that takes place every\nThursday with local produce, arts, crafts and plants. But the most talked about\nmarket has got to be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefromeindependent.org.uk\/\">Frome Independent Market<\/a> which is held every\nmonth and hailed as the best street market in the west. It exhibits everything\nfrom contemporary designers and makers to independent food and drink retailers.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.somersetfarmersmarkets.co.uk\/markets\/frome\/\">The Frome Farmers\nMarket<\/a>\nis also held on the second Saturday of every month and is the largest\nstand-alone farmers market in the South West. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nthe culture vultures, there are two theatres in Frome. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merlintheatre.co.uk\/\">Merlin Theatre<\/a> has a selection of indoor\nand outdoor shows, comedy clubs, workshops for both adults and children and fundraisers\nrunning all year long apart from \u201cdark January\u201d where they traditionally stay\nclosed. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmt.website\/\">Frome Memorial Theatre<\/a> also has a great selection\nof live music and entertainment. &nbsp;Alternatively,\n<a href=\"https:\/\/westwaycinema.co.uk\/frome\/now\/\">Westway Cinema<\/a> is an independent\ncinema showing classics and all the latest releases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\nare also several music venues in Frome including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheeseandgrain.com\/\">Cheese &amp; Grain<\/a>. It\u2019s a non-profit,\nmember owned social venue and once hosted The Foo Fighters!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If\nyou like pretty, rambling gardens, you can attend various workshops scheduled\nthrough the spring\/summer season in the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewalledgardenatmells.co.uk\/\">Walled Gardens<\/a>.
