Epsom is the main town of the Borough\nof Epsom and Ewell in Surrey which is located in the south east of England.\nThere has been a settlement in the area since the 7th<\/sup> century and\nthe town\u2019s name refers to \u201cEbba’s ham\u201d, the home of a prominent Saxon landowner\nnamed Ebba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given its current prosperity, Epsom\nand the surrounding county of Surrey were not particularly well heeled until\nthe advent of the railways in the 19th<\/sup> century, when Surrey\u2019s\nproximity to London and stunning countryside saw the area thrive and Epsom in\nparticular became a popular spa town as the birthplace of the famously\nrestorative Epsom Salts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less than 14 miles south of central\nLondon and 4.5 miles from nearby Leatherhead, with the stunning Surrey Hills on\nthe doorstep and a selection of top-notch schools to boot, Epsom is popular\nwith city workers, families and retirees looking to escape the rat race and get\na little more for their money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cost of housing in London has\nlong seen a drive of city workers moving out to the suburbs and in recent times\nrelocation has been more popular than ever. However, even though Surrey is the\nmost expensive of London\u2019s commuter counties, Epsom\u2019s average house price of\n\u00a3522,654 for the last 12 months was over 9% less than average house prices for\nSurrey over all (\u00a3576,972) and a significant 81% less than pricey neighbour Wentworth\n(\u00a32,771,338). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, you can still pick up a one\nbedroom flat for less than \u00a3200,000 or a three-bedroom semi-detached property\nfor \u00a3440,000, making Epsom an attractive proposition for homeowners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport\nLinks<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Zone 9 Epsom is conveniently located for\ntravelling into London by train and is part of the Oyster Card<\/a> pay as you go service at its three\nlocal train stations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Western Railway will have you in\nLondon Waterloo in just under half an hour from Epsom Train Station or both London\nVictoria and London Bridge in around 40 minutes. There are also services to\nnearby Leatherhead in 8 minutes and Guildford in around 30 minutes. Epsom\u2019s\nsecond train station, Epsom Downs, is located next to the eponymous racecourse\nand offers a commuter service to London Victoria. Tattenham Corner Train\nStation located towards the south of the town was also built to serve the Epsom\nDowns Racecourse and is the Queen\u2019s preferred station for Derby Day, also\noffering a number of commuter services.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are frequent bus services<\/a> serving Epsom and nearby towns and villages such\nas Banstead, Dorking and Leatherhead. This includes a regular service<\/a> to Morden to connect with the North Line of the\nLondon Underground and West Croydon<\/a> for the tram, train and London Overground. There\nis also a transport from home<\/a> service available locally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Epsom is conveniently located for\naccessing the A24, A3, B280 and the M25. Both Heathrow Airport and Gatwick\nAirport can be reached in around 30 minutes by car or just over an hour via bus\nand train services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
