The original Roman town and\nlisted buildings are preserved within the board streets of the pedestrianised\ncity centre and neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tucked at the foot of the South\nDowns, the city is surrounded by beautiful countryside to the North and\npicturesque coastline to the South. Chichester is only 1 mile from its harbour\nwhich is connected to the city by the canal. The coastline and harbour provide\nfun water-based activities and many unspoilt beaches to explore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a flourishing cultural\nscene, trendy bars and restaurants, plenty of shops and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwood.com\/goodwood-estate\/\">Goodwood\nEstate<\/a> nearby, Chichester is a\nprestigious place to call your home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport\nLinks<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located in the centre of West\nSussex, Chichester provides excellent road and public transport connections to\nLondon, the beautiful scenery of the South Downs, the beach and beyond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most prominent road in the area\nis the A27 coast road which connects Eastbourne to Southampton. It passes to the south of the city and connects to\nthe M27, M3 and M275. The A29 and A24 connect\nto London. These destinations can be easily reached by the local road network:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The A3: 15 mins<\/li><li>Portsmouth: 25 mins<\/li><li>Southampton: 50 mins<\/li><li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitchichester.org\/place\/witterings\">Witterings<\/a> beaches: 15 mins<\/li><li>The South Downs: 10 mins<\/li><li>Gatwick Airport: 45 mins<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stagecoachbus.com\/promos-and-offers\/south\/unpublished-coastliner\">Coastliner<\/a> bus route travels as far as Brighton to Portsmouth with\nfrequent connections along the South coast every 10 or 20 minutes from\nChichester.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Portsmouth is within a 30-minute\ndrive where you can jump on ferries to France, Spain and the Channel Islands.\nLuxury cruises also depart from the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Direct and regular trains run to\nLondon Victoria with a travel time of 90 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nearest\nStations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/brighton\">Brighton<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/littlehampton\">Littlehampton<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/portsmouth\">Portsmouth<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/southampton\">Southampton<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city is\nfull of excellent state and private schools providing superb standards of\nteaching and learning. According to Ofsted these are the front runners:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Primary <\/strong>\u2013 St Richards RC, Parklands, Jessy Younghusband, Kingsham, Portfield and Fishbourne which are all rated \u2018good\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Secondary <\/strong>&#8211; Bishop Luffa School (ages 11-18) and St Anthony\u2019s are rated as \u2018exceptional\u2019. Chichester High School and Chichester Free School are rated as \u2018good\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Private <\/strong>&#8211; Prebendal School\u00a0(co-ed, day and boarding, ages 2 to 13), Oakwood\u00a0(co-ed, ages 2 to 11), Westbourne House\u00a0(co-ed ages 2 to 13), Lavant\u00a0(girls, ages 3 to 18), Bedales\u00a0(co-ed, day and boarding, ages 8 to 13), Ditcham Park\u00a0(co-ed, ages 4 to 16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can find more information on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsussex.gov.uk\/education-children-and-families\/schools-and-colleges\/find-a-school-academy-or-college\/\">West Sussex County Council<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/find-a-school-in-england?keywords=Chichester%2C+West+Sussex&amp;radius=3&amp;searchtype=search-by-location&amp;LocationCoordinates=50.83664%2C-0.78018\">Government <\/a>&nbsp;websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University\nof Chichester offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and\nwas named one of the top 30 universities in the UK by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/education\/ng-interactive\/2020\/sep\/05\/the-best-uk-universities-2021-league-table\">Guardian in 2021<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chichester\nCollege was awarded an \u2018outstanding\u2019 in all areas by Ofsted following their\nlast inspection in 2020. They are the only further education college in Sussex\nto be rated this highly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure\n&amp; Amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between Chichester\u2019s harbour and canal there are a wide range of water\nand coastal based activities to enjoy. Covering 74sqm, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westsussex.info\/chichester-harbour.shtml\">the harbour<\/a> is an area of\noutstanding natural beauty full of wildlife and activities to suit all ages and\nabilities. Boating and sailing have become popular with a host of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westsussex.info\/chichester-harbour-sailing.shtml\">local yacht\nclubs and sailing courses available<\/a>. Walking paths around the harbour, shoreline,\nsaltmarsh and mudflats showcase the sea bird habitat. The coastal path at East\nHead adjoins the famous Blue Flag award winning West Wittering beach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only a short walk from the town centre, the <a href=\"https:\/\/chichestercanal.org.uk\/\">canal<\/a> is a pleasant place to spend time hiring a rowing\nboat, booking into an organised canal boat tour, canoeing, fishing or walking.\nChichester also has plenty of sporting clubs covering everything from cricket,\nfootball and golf to martial arts, swimming and hockey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.co.uk\/Restaurants-g186406-Chichester_West_Sussex_England.html\">food<\/a> is always easy to find in the city, with its many pubs,\nrestaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Whether\nits Indian cuisine at Masala City, Turkish delicacies at Reina Kitchen or\ntantalising tapas at Viento De Levante, there is no shortage of superb\nrestaurants providing food from around the world. Venturing out of the town to\neat presents the opportunity to visit a cosy country pub with traditional food\nand real ale. Some of the best are The Crown and Anchor with its large beer\ngarden overlooking the harbour or The Fox Goes Free and The White Horse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even although the city is not that\nlarge, it will happily satisfy a fix of retail therapy. North, South, East and\nWest Streets around the city\u2019s market cross are the main shopping areas. These\nstreets host popular high street brands and independent stores where you can buy\nfashion, books and gifts. There is also a large out-of-town shopping complex\ncalled Portfield for convenience shopping. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chichester.gov.uk\/aboutfarmersmarket\">farmer\u2019s market<\/a> is held twice a month where you can pick up produce that\ntraders must grow, rear or bake themselves within a 30-mile radius of the city.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s on<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city of Chichester is steeped\nin history and rich in culture. Visit the 900-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chichestercathedral.org.uk\/\">Cathedral<\/a> with its Victorian spire, original Norman features\nand striking stain glass windows. Take a free guided tour to appreciate the\nmedieval carvings, tapestries, tombs and cloisters. Then, take a walk along the\nmile and a half roman built walls that surround the city. They were built 1,800\nyears ago and are the most intact circuit of Roman town defences in Southern\nEngland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearby, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sussexpast.co.uk\/properties-to-discover\/fishbourne-roman-palace\">Roman Palace and Gardens at Fishbourne<\/a> is well worth a visit. It\u2019s one of the most\nimpressive and largest Roman house ruins in Britain with preserved mosaic\nfloors dating back to AD75-80 and a formal garden laid out as it would have\nlooked 2,000 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Large-scale musical and\ntheatrical productions take place at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Famous\nactors, writers, directors and producers are drawn to the theatre year after\nyear.&nbsp; Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cft.org.uk\/\">theatre\nwebsite<\/a> to find out what is on currently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.westsussex.info\/pallant-house.shtml\">The Pallant House Gallery<\/a> houses modern art inside\na listed early 18<sup>th<\/sup> century building. A fine collection of Modern\nBritish Art by Lucien Freud, Henry Moore and Peter Blake is on show as well as temporary\nvisiting exhibitions that showcase national, international and contemporary\nart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Goodwood Estate provides fantastic\nentertainment and events throughout the year. It has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitsoutheastengland.com\/things-to-do\/goodwood-racecourse-p679731\">race course<\/a>, organic\nfarm, four restaurants, two 18-hole golf courses, The Kennels private members\u2019\nclub, an aerodrome, a health club and a hotel. The most prestigious events held\nat Goodwood are the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwood.com\/motorsport\/festival-of-speed\/\">Festival of Speed<\/a>, held over 3\ndays to celebrate motor racing, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwood.com\/horseracing\/qatar-goodwood-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Qatar Goodwood Festival<\/a>, 5-days of thrilling horse racing action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safety &amp; Crime<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The areas of Chichester North, South and\nWest have very low crime rates. Chichester East and City have a slightly higher\ncrime rate but no higher than other similar parts of Sussex.
