Lifetime leases are essentially legally binding agreements that let you live in a property mortgage-free and rent-free for the rest of your life – much like equity release – but for a new home, rather than your existing property.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you make a one-off payment to purchase\nthe lifetime lease, which will be less than the full market value<\/a> of the\nproperty, this entitles you to live in the property for the remainder of your\nlife. Once you die or move\ninto a care home<\/a> then the property will revert to the lender\u2019s ownership,\nalthough some lifetime lease agreements offer the option to safeguard a\npercentage of the property’s future value to be included in your estate for inheritance<\/a>\npurposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lifetime leases are most popular with the over-60s,\nallowing them to move to a property that they otherwise might not be able to\nafford, or to save a nest egg. Indeed, some lifetime lease companies are\nadvertising properties at up to 59% less than their market price. They also\nallow retirees to avoid renting in later life and \u2013 depending on the\nspecifics of the lease \u2013 they may be able to free up additional equity that\ncould pay off mortgages, outstanding loans or simply fund more holidays abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
