Indeed, in the\nheight of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people searching Google for \u201coff\ngrid living for sale\u201d rose by 357% when compared to the same period in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what is off grid\nliving, what does it entail and how can you find off grid properties?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a start, the expression \u201cliving off grid\u201d can have wildly different connotations depending on who you ask. When taken literally, the term \u201coff grid\u201d refers to being disconnected from the main national transmission grid of electricity, and often other utilities like water and gas. For many, an off-grid lifestyle conjures up a sense of freedom, self-sufficiency and a more sustainable, environmentally friendly way of life with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yopa.co.uk\/homeowners-hub\/thinking-of-buying-a-smallholding-what-you-need-to-know\/\">smallholdings<\/a>, wind turbines and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yopa.co.uk\/homeowners-hub\/how-much-do-solar-panels-add-to-the-value-of-your-house\/\">solar panels<\/a> and the opportunity to jump off the consumerist treadmill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Finding off-grid\nproperties for sale<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is surprisingly difficult\nto locate existing properties with must-have off grid essentials since the\nlikes of Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket do not currently have any dedicated off\ngrid listings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, we find the easiest way of locating suitable properties is to head off to Google and type in <strong><em>site:rightmove.co.uk \u201coff grid\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>or any preferred search term such as \u201csolar panels\u201d, or \u201cland for sale\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s break down this\nsearch query to understand what it means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>site:rightmove.co.uk<\/em> <\/strong>\u2013 This asks Google to only return results from Rightmove, but you can also change this to zoopla.co.uk or onthemarket.com.<\/li><li><strong><em>\u201coff grid\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>\u2013 This asks Google to only return pages which contain the word \u201coff grid\u201d.
