For the history lovers, the Royal Borough of Greenwich in South East London needs no introduction. Home to Christopher Wren\u2019s architectural masterpiece (another one!) the Greenwich Old Royal Naval College<\/a>, Greenwich Meridian Time<\/a> (GMT), and the famous tea clipper the Cutty Sark<\/a>, Greenwich offers a characterful market town vibe only 6 miles from central London and is popular with families and the well-heeled for its riverside location, green parkland and stunning architecture.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst picturesque West Greenwich with its array of architectural gems is more pricey, East Greenwich still has options available for first time buyers including both new developments and more traditional character properties and there are plenty of rental opportunities for young professionals and students attending Greenwich University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a purse-friendly zone 2 location and one of the cheapest Council Tax bands in London to boot, keep reading to see why Greenwich could make an ideal place to call home.

Transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Greenwich town centre is well connected to both Canary Wharf and the City. Greenwich Station and Cutty Sark for Greenwich Maritime Station both offer Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services to Canary Wharf and beyond on the Lewisham Line. There are also regular trains from Greenwich and Maze Hill to London Bridge, Blackfriars and Cannon Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearby North Greenwich station is a short bus ride away from Greenwich town centre via the 188 or 122 and offers numerous bus services<\/a>, a Jubilee Line connection, the Thames Clipper<\/a> boat service and the Emirates Cable Car<\/a> connection to Royal Victoria on the DLR which links to Stratford, Monument and Beckton.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All stations, apart from Maze Hill, fall under Zone 2.  Maze Hill is in Zone 3. Annual travelcard fees can be found on the Transport for London (TFL) website here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyclists will appreciate the National Cycle Route 1<\/a> which stretches along the Thames Path taking in the sites and is traffic-less for much of the Greenwich leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For drivers, the nearby Blackwell tunnel links the Greenwich Peninsula with the Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf and the rest of East London north of the Thames. The A2 will have you on the M25 South in around 15 minutes and the A12, A102 and M11 will have you on the M25 to the North in around 35 minutes, traffic dependent. However, as is often the case with London traffic, public transport is generally the quicker option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
