However, living\nin a picture-perfect town so close to the capital doesn\u2019t come cheap. Far from\nit, in fact, with the average property in the area fetching the princely sum of\n\u00a3631,044. If you have the funds to spare though, Windsor is a fantastic place\nto move to. Life expectancy is above the national average, as is happiness, the\nquality of the local schools and median income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Windsor is\nserved by two train stations; Windsor &\nEton Riverside<\/a> and Windsor &\nEton Central<\/a>.\nBoth stations are within walking distance of each other, with the former\nserving the London Waterloo line and the latter being on the line from Slough\nto London Paddington. The most popular commuter station tends to be Windsor\n& Eton Riverside, mainly because it\u2019s possible to get a seat in the morning\nbut also because the trains run directly into London Waterloo in around an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of\nroad connections, Windsor lies almost adjacent to the M4 which means that\ntravelling into West London is a breeze\u2026 although perhaps not at rush hour.\nWindsor is also within easy reach of the M3 and M4 motorways, allowing alternative\nroutes into London and connections with the rest of the UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When most\npeople think of schools in and around Windsor, the first name that springs to\nmind is Eton<\/a>. Known as one of the most famous and prestigious schools in the\nworld, Eton has been welcoming students since 1440 although you\u2019ll need deep\npockets for the fees! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of\nstate-funded primary schools in Windsor, the Ofsted results are all either\n\u201cgood\u201d or \u201coutstanding\u201d, so rest assured that you\u2019ll have plenty of options to\nchoose from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondary schools in the area also perform well in Ofsted assessments, with the Windsor Boys\u2019 School and St Peter’s Church of England Middle School both being awarded a \u201cgood\u201d rating and independent The Green Room School being rated as \u201coutstanding\u201d, as have a number of state, independent and grammar schools in nearby Slough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure and\nAmenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s get the\nobvious one out of the way first \u2013 Windsor Castle<\/a>, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. This\nmagnificent fortress dates back to just after the Norman Conquest and is one of\nthe official residences of the King and his family. The castle is open to the\npublic throughout the year\u2026 with an entrance fee, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If history\nisn\u2019t your thing, then LEGOLAND\nWindsor<\/a> is\n\u2013 as you might have guessed by the name \u2013 also close to the town. First opened\nin 1996, the park is officially aimed at kids aged between three and twelve but\nlet\u2019s face it; everyone loves Lego, as attested to by the fact that this is now\nthe most visited theme park in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For lazy summer\ndays, our top pick is a visit to Windsor Great Park<\/a>. This royal park was once the private hunting ground of the\nmonarch but is now open to the public without any charge (with the exception of\nSavill Garden) from dawn to dusk. Just take a blanket and a picnic basket and\nyou will be ready to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s on<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Where to start\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from the\nregular horse racing events at Windsor Racecourse<\/a>, the events season really kicks off with the Windsor Spring\nFestival in March. The festival itself aims to bring together the \u201cworld\u2019s\nfinest musicians, writers, artists, and local performers to entertain and\ndelight audiences\u201d and don\u2019t worry too much if you miss it because there\u2019s also\nan Autumn Festival which is usually held in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May welcomes\nthe Royal Windsor Horse Show<\/a> to town, where parades are held in the grounds of Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June and July\nare when the events calendar in Windsor becomes jam-packed though, with The\nGarter Ceremony, Royal Ascot and the Marlow and Henley Royal rowing regattas\nall taking place in and around the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crime &\nSafety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For such a\npopular tourist destination, crime rates in the Windsor & Maidenhead area\nare surprisingly low, with a lower than average crime rate than the Thames Valley<\/a> police force area overall recorded in 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a\nnumber of neighbourhood watch groups<\/a> locally, and\nthe Windsor Neighbourhood Plan Delivery Group<\/a> is a voluntary\ncommunity association which co-ordinates the delivery of specific projects\nidentified by the local community as being important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
