The city is home to 3 train stations, with Derby Station being the main hub just a short walk from the city centre. You can reach London by fast train in just 1 hour 46 minutes, Leeds in 1 hour 19 minutes and Birmingham in just 45 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Derby also has affordable, reliable buses that have been ranked the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.derbyconnected.com\/getting-around-derby\/buses\/\"> 6th best in the country<\/a> by the Campaign for Better Transport. Connections across the city leave on an average every 10 minutes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The A38 which intersects Derby allows easy road access to Birmingham and the rest of the West Midlands for drivers whilst the Derby Southern Bypass links the surrounding area with the M1 which connects London and Leeds plus the A1(M) to Newcastle and beyond. Cyclists will appreciate the sheer number of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.derbyconnected.com\/getting-around-derby\/cycling\/cycling-in-derby\/\"> cycle routes<\/a> across this flat, compact city, which is also a Sustrans National Cycle Network hub town with four main routes criss-crossing the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest stations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/derby\">Derby<\/a> \u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/peartree\">Peartree<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/spondon\">Spondon<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/duffield\">Duffield<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Derby has an excellent<a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/schools-by-type?step=default&amp;table=schools&amp;region=831&amp;la-name=derby&amp;geographic=la&amp;for=primary\"> selection<\/a> of local primary and secondary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawn.derby.sch.uk\/\">Lawn Primary School<\/a> in Allestree has the best SATS results in the city, with 89% achieving the expected level for 11-year olds in reading, writing and maths. The national average is 65%, to put that into perspective! Spanish is also taught in years 3-6.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redwoodprimary.com\/\"> Redwood Primary School<\/a> in Sinfin saw 75% of pupils achieving at least the expected standard and 11% being above the expected standard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of secondary education,<a href=\"https:\/\/landau-forte.org.uk\/\"> Landau Forte College<\/a> was rated<a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/schools-by-type?step=phase&amp;region=831&amp;geographic=la&amp;phase=secondary\"> well above average<\/a> in the 2019 GCSE results, and prides itself on its diversity and inclusivity. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.derbygrammar.org\/\">Derby Grammar School<\/a> is a selective boys school accommodating students from primary age with a co-educational sixth form.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.derbyhigh.derby.sch.uk\/\"> Derby High School<\/a> is a co-educational private school for ages 3-18 and was Derbyshire&#8217;s top performing independent day school in 2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Derby is also home to the eponymous and well-regarded<a href=\"https:\/\/www.derby.ac.uk\/\"> University of Derby<\/a>, which appears at number 26 in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/education\/ng-interactive\/2019\/jun\/07\/university-league-tables-2020\"> 2020 UK university league tables<\/a> and has a population of around 30,000 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re a nature lover, look no further than Derby\u2019s numerous<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitderby.co.uk\/whats-on\/parks\/\"> parks and green space<\/a>, including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inderby.org.uk\/parks\/derbys-parks-and-open-spaces\/derby-arboretum\/\"> Derby Arboretum<\/a> \u2013 the very first park in the UK and said to be the inspiration for Central Park in New York.
