Hardly surprising it was voted one of the best places to live in the East two years running by the Sunday Times then!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A redevelopment of the main high street, great schools and a rich history and local heritage certainly makes Chelmsford one to watch if you are looking for property in the south east.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Popular with London commuters, there is a direct service from Chelmsford to London Liverpool Street in just over half an hour, used by around 14,000 commuters daily. Trains also run to Colchester, Ipswich, Clacton-on-Sea, Harwich, Braintree and Norwich amongst others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a modern bus terminal in the city, offering a number of routes to destinations in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire, as well as Stanmore and Barnet in Greater London and the X30 to Stansted Airport. Chelmsford also offers two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexhighways.org\/getting-around\/bus\/park-and-ride.aspx\">Park and Ride<\/a> services with bus stops throughout the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For drivers, the A414 trunk road travels from Hemel Hempstead to Maldon via Chelmsford, linking it to the A12 and the M11 motorway at junction 7. Junction 11 of the M25 is also only 14 miles from Chelmsford.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cyclists will be pleased to know that there are plenty of scenic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexhighways.org\/getting-around\/cycling\/routes-and-maps#chelmsford\">cycle routes<\/a> nearby, including the National Cycle Routes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustrans.org.uk\/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network\/route-1\/\">1<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustrans.org.uk\/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network\/route-13\/\">13<\/a> which both intersect the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearest stations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/chelmsford\">Chelmsford Station<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/ingatestone\">Ingatestone<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/hatfield-peverel\">Hatfield Peverel<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/stations\/shenfield\">Shenfield<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Schools<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chelmsford has an excellent selection of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/find-a-school-in-england?searchtype=search-by-location&amp;keywords=Chelmsford%2C%20Essex&amp;page=1&amp;LocationCoordinates=51.73585%2C0.46971&amp;radius=3&amp;schoollevel=IsPrimary\">primary<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/find-a-school-in-england?searchtype=search-by-location&amp;keywords=Chelmsford%2C%20Essex&amp;page=1&amp;LocationCoordinates=51.73585%2C0.46971&amp;radius=3&amp;schoollevel=IsSecondary\">secondary schools<\/a> on offer, including Chancellor Park Primary School and Beehive Lane Community Primary School, both of which have been rated \u2018outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted. In fact, 34 of the primary schools in the area have been rated as either good or outstanding. In terms of secondary schools, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandon.essex.sch.uk\/\">Sandon School<\/a>, a mixed comprehensive school, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sjp.essex.sch.uk\/\">St John Payne Catholic School<\/a> are highly rated locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chelmsford also offers an impressive selection of grammar and independent schools. This includes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kegs.org.uk\/\">King Edward VI Grammar School<\/a>, which has appeared in the top 10 of The Times Top 150 State Schools in the country and received an outstanding rating from Ofsted to boot. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cchs.co.uk\/\">Chelmsford County High School for Girls<\/a> is also highly thought of, appearing at number 24 on the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further education courses in a range of areas including art and design, teaching and engineering are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chelmsford.ac.uk\/\">Chelmsford College<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/aru.ac.uk\/student-life\/life-on-campus\/chelmsford-campus\">Anglia Ruskin University<\/a> also has a recently refurbished campus in Chelmsford. The University is known for having Essex\u2019s first school of medicine, as well as various undergraduate degrees including architecture and civil engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the other end of the spectrum, new parents will be pleased to discover one of the many offerings for babies and toddlers in the area from French lessons to music, drama and gym via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happity.co.uk\/chelmsford\/baby-toddler-classes\">Happity<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexmums.com\/\">Essex Mums<\/a>. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chelmsford is a city rich in history and heritage.
