A former market town dating back to Saxon times, the thriving Wiltshire city of Swindon \u2013 once a powerhouse of the industrial revolution \u2013 has successfully managed to navigate the tricky post-war slump in heavy industry, attracting the knowledge-based sector and some of the highest average incomes in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the M4 on its doorstep, Swindon is well connected to major hubs such as Bristol, Reading, Oxford and Bath, all of which are only 30-35 miles drive. Swindon\u2019s proximity to London, situated just 78 miles away, also makes the city an excellent base from commuters drawn by competitive house prices and the stunning Cotswolds countryside. And with big business like Nationwide and Dyson on the doorstep, Swindon is definitely one to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the main Great Western Railway line between Bristol and London Paddington, Swindon is served by multiple, fast daily inter-city services, with London Paddington a 55-minute journey and Bristol just 22 minutes away. Kemble, known as the gateway to the Cotswolds, can also be reached in less than 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swindon also has a number of coach and bus services<\/a> travelling throughout the city and beyond with links to neighbouring towns and cities like Oxford, Bristol and Reading. Swindon also offers a number of cycling<\/a> routes for commuters on two wheels and beautiful countryside jaunts just a short ride away via the off-road National Cycle Route 45<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swindon\u2019s location north of the M4 motorway means the city also offers easy access to the South West and Wales by car. Two motorway exits, Junction 15 (Swindon East) and Junction 16 (Swindon West) provide easy access to and from Swindon. To reach the Cotswolds and the West Midlands, take the A419 trunk road that runs along the city’s eastern edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
