Despite some unflattering press in recent years, Peterborough in the East of England is a town on the up. Jumping from 119th<\/sup> to 67th<\/sup> best place to live in the UK<\/a> from 2013 to 2015, Peterborough has also become the UK’s fastest growing city<\/a> (ahead of London, Liverpool and Manchester) and offers direct transport links to many of the UK\u2019s major towns and cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A move away from its industrial past and significant regeneration in the Noughties has led to an economic boom and significant business growth in the financial, environmental goods and services sectors. The city centre has also recently received a \u00a312 million transformation<\/a> of the historic Cathedral Square, turning it into a buzzing hub filled with cafes, restaurants and shops. Peterborough is still in the midst of further, extensive development and the introduction of thousands of new homes to boot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data from the Office of National Statistics has shown that whilst the city is an affordable option \u2013 with average house prices for the area still below the national average \u2013 in contrast to many areas of the UK, including London, house prices in Peterborough have continued to rise steadily at around 4% year on year for the past 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet despite its modern regeneration as a city of the future, Peterborough still retains a rich history and is home to several important archaeological and historic sites, such as the stunning 13th-century cathedral whose remarkable gothic fa\u00e7ade dominates the city centre. And with the impressive Nene Park<\/a> offering a 3 and half mile stretch of stunning countryside on the doorstep and plans to become the UK\u2019s Environment Capital<\/a>, Peterborough has a lot to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Links<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Peterborough has excellent transport links and, impressively, the fastest average commute in the UK<\/a>.  The A1 motorway is on the doorstep and connects the city with Birmingham, Newcastle and Edinburgh amongst others. Peterborough railway station is also conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from the town centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just 50 minutes from London King’s Cross on the East Coast Line, the city also has direct rail links to Leicester, Leeds, Birmingham, Liverpool, York, Edinburgh, and many other UK hubs and offers frequent rail services to Gatwick Airport in around 2 hours.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also a number of bus services<\/a> traversing the city and beyond and a National Express coach service to London Victoria. Cyclists will appreciate the Green Wheel cycle routes<\/a> which provide over 45 miles of continuous, sustainable routes throughout the city.
