Conveniently located just 40 minutes south-east of London Waterloo, Guildford in Surrey is a charmingly English town boasting a picturesque high street and offering excellent connections to both the capital, the coast and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bustling market town since the 17th<\/sup> century, Guildford\u2019s history dates back to Saxon times and Guildford Castle \u2013 with its Great Tower offering stunning panoramic views across the county \u2013 was built not long after the Norman invasion of 1066.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only 27 miles from London, today\u2019s Guildford offers an ideal mix of rural and urban life with convenience and community in equal measure. As you walk further away from the enchanting cobbled high street, you’ll find some excellent period properties all located within easy walking distance from the railway station and the town is also conveniently placed for connections to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town was named one of the top 15 best places to live in the south-east by The Sunday Times<\/a> in 2018 and again in 2020<\/a>, which is possibly why it is also one of the most expensive places to live outside of London!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting around the south-east from Guildford is easy via public transport or car, thanks to the great network of trains and buses and the town\u2019s proximity to the A3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can reach London Waterloo station in under 40 minutes by train and be in the capital in about 30 minutes by car. Heathrow Airport is just 22 miles away via the A3 and M25, and you can reach Gatwick airport in less than an hour via the M25. Since the opening of the Hindhead tunnel, access to the coast has also improved. Multiple park and ride facilities are available in the town, with the Guildford “Glide<\/a>” being one of the most popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two train stations in Guildford, with Guildford Railway Station being the largest. Originally opened in 1845, the station was rebuilt in the 1980s and is a busy hub for commuters and students at the University of Surrey. The station is located a short walk from the town centre, and you can catch hourly trains to London Waterloo and London Victoria, with services to Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire also available. Guildford\u2019s second station, London Road, is half a mile from the town centre and offers stopping services only between Guildford and Waterloo via either Cobham & Stoke or Epsom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple coaches and buses serve Guildford, with National Express<\/a> services available to and from Heathrow Airport and London Victoria. The main bus station in town is known as the Friary and is located in the town centre, perhaps unsurprisingly next to the Friary Shopping Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
