Only 3 miles from central London, Clapham can be roughly divided into four areas &#8211; Clapham North, Clapham Old Town, Clapham South and Clapham Junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students and young professionals are attracted to Clapham North because it is cheaper and Clapham Junction due to its proximity to restaurants, bars and transport links. Families tend to prefer Clapham South since it is further afield from the hustle and bustle and Clapham Old Town for its beautiful and spacious Victorian and Georgian terrace houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Battersea to the north, Brixton to the east, Balham and Streatham to the south and Wandsworth to the west, Clapham is one of the most popular places to live in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arrival of the railways in London in the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century transformed Clapham into a commuter suburb for the working class. More recently, there was a huge regeneration programme in the 1980s which encouraged residents from Knightsbridge and Chelsea to travel south of the river and cemented Clapham\u2019s reputation today for being affluent and middle class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Living in Clapham means you will never get bored. The 220-acre Clapham Common is great for walking your dogs, taking the kids out to play or using one of the many playing fields available to the public. When Londoners were surveyed, those from Clapham gave their area supremely high ratings across all categories &#8211; trendiness, friendliness, happiness, affordability and eating and drinking. In fact, Clapham Junction is Europe\u2019s busiest railway station. Peak times see the arrival of one train every 13 seconds and off-peak times see one train every 30 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From Clapham Junction station, you can travel into central London within 10 minutes by train. But you can also travel even further afield with trains regularly heading to Hastings, Gatwick Airport, Portsmouth and many more destinations. Clapham High Street Station is on the Overground, with links to Canada Water, Shoreditch and Highbury &amp; Islington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clapham also has three tube stations on the Northern Line: Clapham North, Clapham Common and Clapham South. You can be in the west end in only 15 minutes, Victoria and Waterloo in under 10 minutes and Oxford Circus in 12 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Busses are convenient too, with the No.\u200588 travelling from Clapham Common to Camden via Vauxhall and Oxford Circus. Clapham Manor Primary School, St Mary&#8217;s Roman Catholic Primary School, Macaulay Church of England Primary School and Iqra Primary School have all received wonderful outstanding ratings by Ofsted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also several local secondary schools including Lambeth Academy. Nearby Platanos College and Harris Academy Battersea recently received an outstanding rating by Ofsted. There are also several schools for children with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lambeth.gov.uk\/send-local-offer\/education\/special-schools-and-resource-bases-in-lambeth\"> special educational needs<\/a> in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For further education, the closest options are London South Bank University, who were awarded<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lsbu.ac.uk\/about-us\/news\/university-graduate-employment-2019\"> University of the Year for Graduate Employment<\/a> two years in a row, and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lambethcollege.ac.uk\/\"> Lambeth College<\/a> who have a good reputation for Access Programmes, and high progression rates from these programmes to university courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the heart of Clapham is its Common. Loved by all locals, it boasts meandering footpaths, 3 ponds, a Victorian bandstand, beautiful mature trees, an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.holytrinityclapham.org\/\"> 18<sup>th<\/sup> century church<\/a>, 2 playgrounds, a skate park, sporting facilities and caf\u00e9s. It is a welcome oasis of peace and relaxation within the busy traffic of South West London.
